Plural marriage exists, yes, but typically in place that believe in the principle. Most religions as well as federal, state and local laws prohibit such behavior. Personally, I figure you can have another wife if you get divorced or she dies.

Either way, after one wife, I am not sure I would want or could handle another.

What year are you living in? If you live in the past and are trying to populate the earth, then you should have 5 wives....

Bigimi is banned by Christians. One wife at once, only.

And are you here to change the subject and harass and name call other members, as usual?

I believe what he is saying this that the Old Testament argument does not hold water for those of us living in the here and now.

The book of Mormon also does not apply, depending on your faith...

Please go away, we grow tired of your insults and constant thread hyjacking.

It is irrelevent to the modern time. Marriages are governed by law not religion in many countries.

If Christians have more than one wife, they are part of a "cult" type of Christianity...

So according to you Old Testament is irrelevant to people in modern time, what other parts of Bible do you find irrelevant to modern time?
Isn't strange that a book that should represent God's words could not even survive 2000 years before it became irrelevant?

The thread is about if CHRISTIANS can have more than 1 wife according to their religion rules and not if Americans or English are permitted to have more than 1 wife according to their laws. ;)

He is so clueless it is sad. He doesn't even realize that History is written down. Genesis has history written for us. Not much in Genesis has any rules or laws that are specific for a Christian in 2007. I suppose if he read a history book on WWII he would think we should be shooting Japanese and Germans. Sad.... and all he has is insults and misinformation.

(There is a reason I keep him on ignore, less pollution, I am doing my part to keep the pollution down, now it is time for you to participate.)

So Bible is a history book and not the word of God about how Christians should live and all this time I thought it was a story book with some wild stories.:D

I am going to call myself Bible-believing non-Christian in that case. Wondering what your definition of Christian is.

    Or non-pedophile Christian.

Exactly, because all these stories contradict what my preacher told me, which means that I got fooled, and it just can't be. Say, the story in Genesis about God making a covenant with Abraham about circumcizing all his male decendants? If it was true, my pedophile preacher would tell me about it - that's what I pay him for. I guess some Christians are not descended from Abraham, or whatever

This not a problem. The original purpose for humans was mating for life (and that meant forever). (Genesis 2:23-24) When Jesus was on earth he reiterated this purpose thereby restoring the original (Matthew 19:4-9). Prior to this, God had allowed men to have more than one wife, in that he did not prevent it. This does not mean that he approved of it. God did not institute polygamy. It had his approval no more than did divorce, which was also practiced by his people.Malachi 2:14-16. He does not prevent us from acting in boundless kinds of wickedness does he...? doesn't mean it has his approval. Jesus was God's spokesman, so we can trust that he spoke the truth regards God's thoughts.

Ironically Canada is currently considering legislation to make polygamy legal nation wide. It's not practiced much here, but there are a few religious sects that do promote and encourage it.

I say, as in all other non-harmful endeavors, to each their own.

In the New Testament, qualifications for Christian leaders (1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1) require that a leader be the "husband of one wife".

Jesus Himself, speaking of marriage and the husband and wife, said "they two shall be one flesh". Not "they three" or four or more.

Christian or not, you get more than one women together and the estrogen multiples by a factor of 10 squared.. 3, and it nearly explodes to 1000 fold. I cannot imagine having more than one wife... It's hard enough to win an argument one and one with a women.. Get 2, 3, or 4 on one... You f$%ked...

    No thanx...
