I think it will go down... Free and Paid Reviews wont make a difference as they are probably be ranked by quality of backlinks (relevence) and sites included within such directory as well Uniqueness ..(those would be my strongest view points anyway) When you think about it both are what they are... directories, what they offer the submitter as well as the SE engines in the end will be the determing factor. thx malcolm
There are a number of good, established education & writing niche directories, see a list on my website at http://www.quantawebdesign.com/tips/directory-niche.html And I own a niche directory that focuses on writers (as well as other creative folk): http://www.indiecoffeehouse.com If you're a writer you're very welcome to submit a link (it's free). Most categories (including all the ones for writers, authors, poets, etc.) have good PR. best, Denise
Easy, low risk and the dream of high rewards. The reality is that it is a very tough market to make a profit in and you must wait 6-8 months till you even turn the corner and start earning money and that is only if you have spent lots of time and money on promotion.
Did you mean 1000's upon 1000's. I think it matters not how many there are. What matters is digging out the good directories and leaving the others to rot because simply people see a directory and have no idea what it is actually about. They see they can pick up a free script and they give it a go themselves thinking that some mug will pay just because they have a directory. Damn, who cares. It is easy to work out the good ones and see who is actively promoting their directory - there the ones we should all be sticking with.
Directory just like human, some born and some die. And I don't think there are so many quality directories now.
I think it's safe to say the owners of the most successful directories are some of the best judges of worthwhile directories to submit to. They see the field and they're aggressive link investors. The smartest ones seem to be able to spot the up and comers way before the others.
Agree with the traffic but but once a directory has been indexed the link is counted irrespective of whether its a "quality" directory or not. Some would have you believe that PR2 is worth more than PR1 but I dont see it. The question is how long that link is going to be around to be counted and I would be careful of directorymastrs pouring resources into sites that are unlikely to ever show a return on the investment. Its a tough world out there and fools and their money are soon parted.
I totally agree with you on this. As for the number of directories out there? Let's see the good points. Competition pushes quality on higher levels. There are plenty of them out there of course, with more than half of them being almost useless or low quality. But good directories that really have to offer something to the sites submitted, will always be around and every webmaster should choose carefully where to submit.
Wow, I'm guessing yours is the first directory of that niche Good point, about competition creating better quality; hopefully that winds up being the case...
I think that if someone is going to claim some web space for a site of his, then the site should better be something good. Nobody likes rubbish.
That depends on how you define rubbish. Some swear by PR but Google is clamping down on sites selling artificially high PR, so how do you tell? Others base the value on the design and graphics used but thats also a shaky yardstick to use. Content is often cited as a determinent but what are you looking for, quantity? Free directories are good but your listing soon gets swallowed up and more often than not pushed to the bottom of the list where it wont be found. But the most important question that webmasters should be asking is how long is this directory going to last. Who is the Directory Master and why?
I can say a directory is rubbish, from the way it operates. If it has listings it shouldn't have, if there is no way to contact the webmaster, if the service is slow, If getting a mail replied is a long fight..... All these things. A good directory always shows...
Yes there are many directories out there, but most people look for quality. Its better to submit to 10 well established directories then 20 non-established. - Prilep
Most directories never get about PR3 or PR4, and soon become paid, as they have so many free submissions. Many of these directories will fade away. The good, high strength directories will get stronger and stronger.
