Most probably down to overselling. But oh well, it didn't stop me. Who can complain about $1 a month, you have nothing to lose. Obviously I wouldn't advise it for an establish large proxy, but it is perfect for your first proxy.

Wow, come on dude, do the math and a little bit of research.
He is running one of these dedicated boxes, I checked the whois on www.XeonHosting.Net, and followed his nameservers back to http://swduk.net/content/dedicated.html.

So if he is running one of those boxes, he has plenty of resources to handle 30-40 small proxies, and most start a proxy and find out they can't make $100 the first day andthen give up.

He could cover his cost easily by getting 30 or so people to signup for the $5 for life deal.

You've never run a dedicated server have you KGL?

A powerful enough server for 30-40 proxies with cpanel costs a bit more than $30-$40 a month.

Life time deal covers his cost for the first month, how about after that?????

I have all dedicated servers myself BTW

@Grim - I knew you would have something more to say, you always do.

Actually, I run a few dedicated boxes, all my own.

I know that dedicated boxes cost way more than $30-$40/month.

If dude gets 30 people at $5, then he has got himself covered for a month, he should be only paying around $150/month for the box.

Like I said, most people will drop off after a month, so thats money in the bank, all he has to do is wash rinse and repeat every month.

And even if he doesn't get 30 people, every person he gets to pay him helps him pay for his box.

I do when people are wrong...

He 'might' get enough to pay for a box for one month with lifetime hosting fees for the first month, on the basis that he hopes that those people stop using the service after a month.

How about the next month, in order to recover his costs he needs to sell the same plus have those current customers, and so on.

You don't see the problem there, do the math it's overselling to the extreme.

BTW those servers you linked to are NOT 'more than enough' the ones listed are pretty fng weak...

Regardless of whether he is covering his cost every month it's till a decent deal, and the hardware ok, not the best, but for the price, it's ok, especially if you have a proxy thats doing 2-3GB/day.

I'm done Grim, it's no that serious.

2-3 gb a day x 30 sites on those servers, I'd love to see that. Even then $30 a month, server is down because it's being overrun, losing money and slow service. If he has a more powerful server then it costs even more a month.

Yeah price is great, a bit to great. Overselling to the extreme.

No it's not 'that serious' but there is being correct and being incorrect ;)

BTW most drop from proxies because it's costing them to much a month, if it's not costing them anymore why would they drop off. Afterall their hosting is already paid for.

most of these are fly by hosts if not all of them

i bought another package from a guy called nexua here..and the server was down twice..

yeah forgot to tell i bought 1$ a month plan for my starters proxy..though i dont get much traffic but still..

i think they just get some lifetime signups..after max 6-7 months either disappear or their Master master reseller will shut them down

Serous proxy hosting requires atleast a 40$ a mo/ VDS or Dedicated...thats what i feel.

People quit because in many cases it costs more in $$ and headaches to run than it's worth, especially if banned from the few programs that work ok with a proxy.

If you however do not have to pay another dime for hosting, I doubt people are just going to quit as easily, until the server goes down and no longer exists perhaps...

;) I've watched many of the cheap proxy hosts do just this, or the service was so terrible it was worth nothing.

Grim is right here.. BTW, I run a dedicated server business and have done so for 10 years now. 1 Proxy could potentially cripple a server if not managed properly.

To get a return on these types of deals you are looking at 600 + sites per machine... There is "over selling", and then there is "irresponsible selling".. Just do not expect the world from the latter.

    YMMV...
