Buying links "outside" the published networks...

I'm interested in buying some links for one of my sites, and I've never done so outside of the more formal context of buying from brokers and such. Does anyone have any recommendations for working outside of this context?

For example, do you literally just e-mail or call webmasters or owners of sites where you'd like to buy a link? How do you approach this if it's obvious that the site is not really selling links?

Finally, is it worth it to post here and other forums with something like "I need links in [Industry]", or does that just lead to a lot of bogus requests? Sorry if these seem like basic questions, but this is clearly an area in which I'm not well-versed.

For the most part your emails will go ignored. I know I delete anyones I get.

Probably best posting on forums saying what industry you are interested in. Get the link sellers to PM you the url rather than posting it for the world to see. You just dont know who is watching these forums.

 

i think it's not a good idea because they may consider you as a spammer

Put a post in the Buy/Sell area and state what industry you're targetting.
