I added my site to about 12 premium directories. I had to pay about 500 dollars for that. It did greatly help me get organic traffic from google specially. But I hardly get any traffic from directories itself. Most directory owners say they highly promote their site. If so I am not sure why the traffic from directory itself is so low. May be I am missing something. There are lot of directory owners here, you may tell better.
well this is the theory... the traffic is hard to get to each listing because many directories are big... but if you are in like one of the extra pages like top hits or something ... and if your site attracts the visitor of the directory, they will visit your site. Or if you submit to a site like mine which offers 6 pages of b/l you will get because i offer more than a directory backlink so it gets you traffic also there are many just directories, and there are some directories which have more to offer rather than just ... but all good ones will help you in SE Rankings so its for good..
Yep smub is right, there are so many links that even if the directory gets decent traffic you are going to get very little traffic from your listing. Go for featured links if you want more opportunity for traffic but even then it will greatly depend on what category you are in.
Great I will try that. I have submitted to v7n and aviva both(i see them on your sig). you think if I just pay the extra for featured I can get promoted to featured?
People submit to general directories mainly for PR and SERP's,try bid directories if you want traffic. some heavily promoted bid dirs are http://www.bigweblinks.com http://www.zorg-links.com/ http://www.cdhnow.com/
The only thing with high traffic bidding directories is you have to compete for the home page links if you want visitors and it can be quite expensive but definately worth it if you have the budget.
You may also be interested in Blaze Bid Directory, which is levergaed from the main site, which gets 20,000+ uniques per day. Good luck.
Thanks for the mention richie Theres not much to it. It can work extremely well. other than forums, the bidding directory webdirectorylist.com sends me a shed load of traffic. True, but it probably works out cheaper in the long run that a PPC like adwords or a banner campaign... Agreed. Plus your yahoo ranking soar, which means more traffic Mike
Directories are a great way of doing SEO and better SERPs.. which will indirectly bring you traffic from search engines.
You should submit to your niche directory for traffic and exposure. e.g. if your site is about real estate, submitting to a real estate directory will bring more traffic IMO
I tried to find some directory specific to job and real estate. Couldn't find any. Do you know any? I like to submit to them.
Good thing about classified is it got quite a few of niche e.g. personals/dating, real estate, for sale, community, jobs etc etc. There are some big players like craigslist, yahoo etc. Technologically I don't think they got anything which I can't achieve. I am not a marketer, I a stuck there. Problem is I am not earning a dime out of it. You can see its all free and there is no adsense or so. This is my little project to get fun. So I cant spend lot every month. I have to go with my monthly budget. Looks like bidding can go quite expensive.
www.36towns.com is a good one, owned by a DP member. I don't know many others i'm sure business directories like www.gii.in www.forplex.com www.directorydump.com will suit your job requirements. mike
