I am shocked by the number of motorists - usually the driver - that discard cigarette butts out of the window. I think it's a lot worse since the ban of smoking in confined places of employment. I imagine more people now wait until they drive home to smoke cigarettes. I am of course referring to England. Has anynody noticed this?
I think a lot of smokers do not regard cigarette butts as rubbish, because they are so small. I also think smokers are more selfish than the general population, otherwise they wouldn't be polluting the very air we breathe. Why can't they be addicted to something less irritating, like shopping or listening to Girls Aloud?
I am smoker and I dont smoke in public areas. I come home/room, sit on sofa and then smoke... There are lot more reasons of polluting environment. Say government to ban the atomic/research/scientific labs. Why people 'sniff' when the other guy is smoking?
They give us ashtrays so we have somewhere to put our change. My whole life, I don't think I've ever met anyone who ever used their car ashtray as..an ashtray. Not even the smokers (including my parents). Everyone uses it for loose change. At least here where I live (Southern US)

Answer to that is you have no idea as to the reasons why smokers smoke. Alot of smoking is mental, it's a habit for people to do... as you will see most smokers can go for quite a while without having to have a cigarette, but while driving there is nothing else to do, so they just smoke more... It depends on where people are at though as well, alot of people won't throw the butt out if they are in a highly populated area, but on a highway or a backroad, it doesn't really matter to most. Smokers are more selfish?? Everyone has a choice, who is to say who is wrong, and who is right? It's just like religion, politics, and everything else in the world, no one will ever win... Pollute the air... well, you do the same thing my friend, just 10x worse with your car. Stop driving then you can complain about air pollution
I think that ashtrays are used all over the world to keep coins. I personally don't like being too close to cigarette smoke because I start coughing....but i'm sure even smokers would agree....cigarette ash in an ashtrays makes cars smell horrible.
I am amazed at how selfish and mindless smokers can be. But this got me to thinking, why don't the manufacturers put a little chute in the console and have all trash drop into the catalytic converter and get converted to CO2 and H2O so organic plants could thrive thanks to incinerated trash? Maybe they could include a sticker to say how nice you are to plants. Before you know it, we'd have whirled peas.
If someone doesn't care about their health then they're definitely not going to care about the environment. That said, people who throw chewing gum on pavements are just as bad.
we were at Seaworld earlier this summer. Literally the only place you could stand was in the smoking areas... I'm glad they had designated areas, it was so crowded you'd go home with 12 accidental burns otherwise!
If they did not have built in ashtrays somebody would have been starting a thread saying that car manufacturers encourage pollution and littering.
I have a question, how the hell do you make ciggy lighters in a car work? I've tried pressing it in, spinning blah blah, and there's a little metal coil or w/e inside it, but I can't make it burn! Feed my pyromania, please!
That's a bit broad isn't it? Does the same apply to alcoholics and heroin addicts? I smoke, know I need to quit, and use the (disgusting) ashtray in my car. In all fairness though I have see a lot of smokers who think the world is their ashtray. We can't legislate manners.
