Hey Buddy, I have worked as SEO for more than 50 websites and got best results accordingly !! But still i am confused about common features of Google and Yahoo to get listed on the top. Do you know - which are the common things that both the search engines like??? Waiting for your contribution !!
To be honest they share nearly all the related elements. It is more of what value they put on each that creates the particular 'flavor'. Both engines use - backlinks - age/authority - relevance - naming conventions - prominence factors - and so forth.... It is more a matter of the weighting used in the algo of each... 'turning the knobs' as it is known.
I'm at top10 position for many keywords in Google and Live. Not even top500 for the same keywords in Yahoo. I don't understand it
Well I shall give ya 2 for Yahoo ( lyrical huh? ) -- Page Naming conventions and Prominence ( Bold, italic, H1 etc... ) Those 2 onPage factors whould pick up some more YaH love... and won't hurt life in G either... as for that 'Live' you mentioned... I say.. "Who?" If you rank in Live... great if not? Don't lose any sleep over it as you won't lose much traffic over it... bwaaa ha ha ha ha ha
Hey thegypsy, I want something more interesting from you which u gained by your experience as you look most experienced SEO here... I did research on that and found that Google is a CONTENT savvy. Google likes more and more content with 2%-7% keyword weight with in the whole content whereas Yahoo loves keyword repetition and as you said Page Naming conventions and Prominence [H1 & BOLD specifically] with 15%-18% Keyword weight. As well as Yahoo do not care about HTML standards including broken links and incomplete tags whereas Google do. what do you say !!!
in my experience keyword density and backlinks are the most important thinks for google i can care what yahoo wants

One of my website having only images of big sizes and text is there for only 4-5 pages in the whole site of 300+ pages just before i started SEO work on it. So i have analyzed site ranking in Google N Yahoo and found that the targeted keywords are getting good ranking on yahoo [just bcoz of pages name like targeted-keyword-1.html, targeted-keyword-2.html, etc] and in Google, no keywords were taking place on the top. So, I think keyword weight in page names is the most important factor to get top ranking in Yahoo !! And Other thing is Yahoo does not give preference to homepage like Google. If you have good targeted keyword related content on any page, thats okey for listing in Yahoo whereas Google works on theme base [ Subject of the site and related information ] Isn't it???
Here is a great article about SE comparison: http://www.seobook.com/relevancy/ Yahoo relies mostly on human judgment and Yahoo directory listings when it comes to very popular keywords.
To be honest when it comes to Google we think more in terms of Phrase Based Optimization than KW Density the Phrase Based Indexing and Retrieval approach showed up in 5+ patents from G over the last 18 months. I would read some on that to help.... Phrase Based Indexing and Retrieval ( and Part II ) Spam detection in a PaIR system Personalized Search in a PaIR system BTW there are no engines that care about HTML standards. Both G and YaH have said numerous times that such is the case.. File it away with 'text to code ratios' under Bad SEO
I just posted this in another thread, but I made it to Google's top ten within a week of my sites going live, but am just now showing up in Yahoo's top ten. It took about 2-3 months to see the results with Yahoo. Has anyone else experienced this? All of the sites were new and have great keyword density, content, headings, bullets, etc. It just seems to me that Yahoo isn't as fast as Google. What do you think? Charisse
richweb2007, I am a little confused by what you're saying. Are you saying your 50 successes were accidents?
I appreciate the fact that Google seems to be quicker than the other engines. I had one site that Google picked up and was number one in many of my keywords before I ever submitted it to any of the search engines. I didn't even have a robots.txt file! Charisse
