What are going to use it for? That makes a huge difference.

Acer generally gets decent reviews. However, the one you are looking at is underpowered compared to the other two (at the same price).

Many people love Macs, but they are a different platform. PC software can work on a Mac through an emulator, but you lose performance doing that. Whether that makes a difference will depend on how you use it. If you are mainly going to be surfing the net, writing letters, etc... then it's not much of an issue. Software that requires a lot of resources, you would be better off buying a PC based notebook or making sure that everything you want is available for Macs. Some software comes with both the PC install and the Mac install. Some you have to buy seperately. If, for example, you had already spent a few thousand on a CAD program that did not come with a Mac installer (and you were going to use it), then don't buy a Mac.

Sony, stay away. They make a good notebook, but a large portion of the cost to you is the brand name. You can get the same performance for considerably less.

I like Dell. They have great support, they are reliable, they aren't the cheapest but they are good.

I am not going to use it for any graphic work or something just simple browsing but I never like slow computers/notebooks.

I guess Apple Mac comes with XP so that shouldn't be an issue??

Take the Sony Viao.... It's the coolest labtop I ever bought to this date.
If you buy a Macintosh then you will regret it for the rest of your life.
I hate that you can't find any programs for it, and it's too damn expensive.

Yeah, don't let them put you off of Mac. The new ones will run windows like a Native. If you have the ability to get a Macbook pro, get it and never turn back. If you can buy two, please send me one. Mac haters just don't get it.
Everything will change with the Leopard release.
Hope he lives longer than that!

I don't like Macs, but I'm not a Mac hater. I wouldn't say that Macs can run Windows like a Native, they still use an emulator which slows the process. With Windows being as bloated as it is, extra slowness is a pain. However, since the OP is going to mainly do surfing and office type apps, I don't think running those in the emulator will have a noticeable effect.

OP: Given your usage, either a PC or a Mac will be fine. Macs will give you the ability to run both types of apps. Part of the reason that I don't like Macs is the price. They are usually a lot more for the same performance. But I learned while helping a friend out a few months ago that Mac notebooks on the higher end are cheaper than comparable PC notebooks. This doesn't seem to be true of the lower end, but in the price range you are looking at Macs seem to have a better price/performance ratio. At least, that was the case a few months ago.

Actually I'm looking for a fast Notebook because I'll be doing graphics works etc on my PC so I won't be using lappy for heavy work. Just usual browsing and surfing. I just hate slow computers so I want a faster one. So far Mac is my number 1 priority but I'm thinking about Sony VAIO too.

mac is best for graphics design ;)

Also: don't forget to consider the BATTERY life (my mistake with my first laptop). Macbook lasts long.. 5 - 6 hours ;)

If you stick with a PC, don't buy a Sony. You can configure a faster system on Dell with the same HDD/RAM, 15.4" screen (not 13.3) with everything the Sony has and more (extra battery, webcam, etc...) for at least $100 cheaper. If you don't add all the bells and whistles you can save even more. Look at the Inspiron 1520. Right now you can get one with Core 2 Duo T7100 (one step down from the Viao), 2GB RAM, 160GB HDD for $919.

You can go to a T7300 for +$75
Vista Home to Vista Business for +$70
    High Res Screen +$100
Best Gfx offered w/ Inspiron +$200
    From wireless b/g to wireless a/b/g +$25
    Built-in Bluetooth +$20
    Integrated webcam +$30
Upgrade to 9 cell battery with 9 cell backup (comes with one 6 cell) +$129
Best sound card they offer +$75
    Total: $1,643 without coupons

    Sony $1,750 after 150 rebate....

If you have the choice I would have to say go with the Mac. I believe you can actually dual boot it using BootCamp and, while I use a Mac but don't have a Macbook, they are nice looking machines.

    Just my .02

The Vaio you list now does not have bluetooth, but the one you listed originally does. Of the two choices I would say the Mac.

What is it about the Vaio that you still have it in the running? It is overpriced. You're spending extra hundreds of dollars for no increase in performance, quality, or service.

You mean VAIO (the one I chose) is not good to go with right? I myself am thinking to get a Macbook Pro and it would cost me $2105.

So I should go for Mac book Pro.

Thanks to everyone for participating. Especially to bluegrass special for good suggestions ;)

Yes, I meant the Vaio (any Vaio) is not a good choice compared to other PC notebooks. You can't exactly compare the Mac to notebooks from other vendors as it is a different platform. If you want a Mac, you pay Mac prices. If you want a PC you have choices of vendors.

Why are you keep on saying Macbook a different platform when you can use windows XP on it and every one who purchased Mac Book is saying that it is really fast with Windows. So what's the catch? Macbook is sleek, quick, fast, great
