Hey all, I just updated Directory Kit with a new article and think that I should share it with you - Everything About Distinguishing and Promoting Your Directory With A Favicon The main reason I wrote the article is because not a lot of people use favicons. By reading this articles I hope that more and more directory owners will use it Sneak Peak: The full article can be seen here. Once again all comments are greatly appreciated.
yup indeed this is a very nice feature .. i have it on Genuine Paid Directory because it personally attracts me as a visitor when i visit a site which have a fav. icon.
Excellent article slashpix, i was going to create a favicon about a month ago and never quite got to doing it, now i have no reason not to, i will reread your article again tomorrow and create my own finally. Thank you Hope to see some wonderful favicons from everyone.
To tell you a secret, in the post I said that I saw only one directory using a favicon out of a hundred. And it was your directory - IDK
Nice work... I may opt for this after i get a few things in order... thx for the article and guidence thx malcolm
Thanks for the article! I always wanted to know more info about Favicon and you made my search a lot easier.
Tried it, works on FF but not on IE see : www.h-log.com , how come ? I placed in header following code : <link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://www.h-log.com/favicon.ico" /> What am i doing wrong?
You should do the following as it states from this site: Add the page to your favorites. If you already have the page in your favorites folder, remove it and add it again. Make sure, the icon file is called favicon.ico and it is placed in the root folder of your web server. Make sure, the path to the favicon in the header of your page is absolute, not relative. Delete your temporary internet files. If the folder with temporary files has reached its maximum, the favicon may not be used. If your favicon is still not showing, leave us a comment below.
I've always found that IE has trouble with favicons. I have them for almost all my websites, but what tends to happen is that IE picks them up for a day, and then forgets about them and you can't get them to display a second time unless you delete the bookmark and add it again.
Favicons are a great way to maintain brand consistency. Fortunately, our logo makes for a great favicon! Check it out at AllBuziness.com!
Thanks for reminding me. I create favicons for all my clients' sites but sometimes get a bit lazy when it comes to my own sites. I just made one for my directory. cheers & gracias ~ Denise
