Having to pay 5x the min allowed bid for a no competition term

I have started promoting some very niched based items on adwords of late. 90% of my adwords keywords have no competition at all and the rest have at most 3 ads.

When i enter the advertisement it comes with up saying min bid is £0.01 so i put in 1p (im the old ad is if i rank bottom i also rank top.....) however when i submit the advert i get a screen saying all my keywords are not active they have a min bid of 4p a word. Ok this doesnt sound much but its a massive % increase on the 1p spend buget. Im using adwords to promote a free item which gets me 17.5p a watch. i have a conversation rate of about 1:4 so at 1:4 it leaves me 1.5p a sign up but the 1p ad would leave me 12.5p profit a sign up. Again not much but once up and running it will get 1000s of watches a day without a problem.

How do i get my keyword bid down and still have the adverts showing? Do i need to increase my quality score? my ads have been running for 2 weeks with a 5% ctr so thats a highlight of the quality isnt it?

got it on. The quality scire against my keywords is 'great' however i still have to pay £0.03 per click for words which have no other competition. Could their be any other reasons for this

    That is completely normal!

3 pence a click, what more do you want! Look at improving your conversion rate.

To get one pence minimum bids, you need to work more on your QS but it is very difficult to improve on what you have.

have been trying to improve the conversation but even with organic traffic the site is only converting 1:5. an extra 1p a click doesnt sound much but in terms of% if it is massive
