Since you are not "American" then I don't see the point of your post. I am an American that has had to deal with the results of this administration. You may find it "silly" that someone would not want to have the hatred against the US on their shoulders as they travel, but people have been beaten severely because they were US Citizens.

When I was serving my country in Iraq, my best friend was in Spain and he watched an American girl get beat down because she was from the US.

If I was proud of what our administration has done, I would stand up against the hatred, but I am not proud of it and don't want to be held accountable for the regime that is in power.

So that makes you so ashamed, that you'd rather be Canadian?

and I dont know what made you to avoid the first part of my post where I asked you a question.

Another thing, As I am not an American, and I do not approve everything Bush administration has done. Still I don't see any hatred against American people (half of my family lives there for 30 years) where I live. Not at leats in the way that people beat any American just because s/he is an American.

Are you kidding me? I never said I would rather be a Canadian, not that there is anything wrong with being a Canadian, I am happy to be an American.

Then why would you put a Canadian flag on you back pack?

I said I was tempted too, just to avoid the stigma of being an "American". I didn't say I have done it, just that I was tempted.

    Hummm, Okay.
But there must be a reason for being 'tempted' to do such things. It may be either shame or fear...

The rest of the world should not be setting our compass, or correcting it. Your comment suggests that our compass is wrong and other nations need to straighten us out. I don't accept the premise.

Met two Candians in Ibiza recently, we thought they were American because of the accents but they said they were Canadian, maybe they were trying to avoid the same thing as you.
But Americans are cool, at least the ones i meet, there normally just looking to score some drugs lol.

For some strange reason some people assume that loving America equals to having no brain.

If you could not care less then you have a complete lack of understanding where foreign policy is concerned.

I can't speak for all other countries but I can assure you that in Canada our culture, way of life, health and happiness are all superior to that of Americans.

You should. I assume it's a combination of your misguided religious beliefs and patriotism that brought on that comment.

Of course we should be setting your compass! You don't accept that premise but do accept a Christian god?

Absolute proof positive that Americans do not have the mental capacity needed to be the 'rulers' of the free world. I believe that in time you will, but so long as your nation is permeated with religious zealots and greedy killers, how can you possibly believe that your compass is pointing in the right direction?

If someone is so ignorant that they decide to hate me personally just because I am an American, then they would not be worthy of my consideration. So, my vote on this would be "don't care."

Agreed, sterotyping is sterotyping, and no one should hate you because of where you come from. But if I were an American abroad, I'd be taking every possible chance to tell everyone I met that I did not share the common values of the States.

I have no desire to travel to countries that are hostile to the US so I would never really need to worry about it. Secondly, I do love my country and would not tell everyone I meet that "I do not share the common values of the States."

I wouldn't worry WebDevHowTo, I think most rational people understand that a countries administration is seperate from it's people. For every rational logical likeable WebDevHowTo there's a GTech though. I guess with every walk of like you just have to judge people on their merits and learn how to spot the veiled bigot ;)

    Gworld, my statement was,
"I have no desire to travel to countries that are hostile to the US..."
That means exactly what I said. NOYB where I have travelled to since your not interested anyway, but just want to make some kind of personal attack.

I think he's trying to figure out if your xenophobia is based on any kind of reality or whether it's just an ignorant intolerance for places you haven't even experienced.

Probably the first time but I totally agree with you for once!

Don't be scared of who you are, if people can't accept you then tell them where to get off.

Four year patriotism as it's finest.

Your xenophobia of Christians and Jews? Or is it cool to openly support and defend terrorists:

...yet call others xenophobic? How does that work?

Are you just trying to insult me, or do you have something to say? As much as you may want to, I am not going to trade insults with you.
