Do you think Islam and Christianity can coexist? Personally, I am non religious but there seems to be a lot of friction between these two religions recently.
no two religions can co-exist. Thier goals are to convert. None of them are happy while there are people believing in a different god to them.
First you will have to define "Co-exist". If it means to have the right to live on your beliefs and accepting the right of others to let them live on their beliefs as well, then yes. We can have a civilized coexistence living in our domains and respecting each other's beliefs. If "Co-exist" means domination of one then No. that will only produce clash which we are known as "Clash of civilization". By the way the friction you are talking is not between two religions. its between two school of thoughts. One part is sure Islam but since Christianity has withdrawn itself from presenting itself as "complete code of life" and have restricted itself to Church so practically its not between Islam and Christianity. However, Capitalism or "new world order" or "West civilization" has taken the place instead the Christianity. On the other hand Islam present itself as "Complete code of life" giving guidance on Politics, economy. sociology, War, Welfare etc.... So Practically there are two major school of thoughts(Socialism being knocked out by joint effort of Capitalism and Islam) claiming to have the "Solution for " the all problems of people of the world. And thats the reason of the friction you were referring to. The solution is if both school of thoughts give space to each other but the problem is "capitalist group" after defeating socialism felt Islam(their former ally) the only hurdle towards their dominance on the world and started a war against them. Remember "Al-CIADA" is dummy opponent of "capitalists" serving for them against Islam. Osama is serving in the best interest of "new world order" people.
Well I believe Any religion can co-exists with another only if all the followers, who claim to be peace follower actually start following peace and keep their beliefs to themselves.
As long as one group of sheep believe that the other group of sheep are going to burn in "hell" for not agreeing with them, there will be religious war. The instant that all of these delusional sheep realize how absolutely insane and backwards their beliefs really are we will all come together as people. Religion is the last bastion for the weak of mind and cruel at heart.
It really is true, whether you replace sheep with a less condescending word or not. If a Christian thinks all non-Christians will go to hell and a Muslim believes all non-Muslims go to hell, what end can there be? Clarity is the only answer.
It depends. On an individual basis most people are perfectly capable of respecting each others religions. I'm Christian if anything, and my girlfriend is Hindu. I respect her beliefs and am happy to join in at family occasions. We've agreed that our children will be brought up to be aware and participate in both faiths, and will be free to choose their own religion if they choose one at all. When you take a large number of people into account though, there are always bigots that can't seem to accept that people choose to follow a different path.
Recently - there is an age old friction. I would like for them to co-exist however there needs to be a lot of ground yeilded on each side and lots of understanding eachother.
Your attitude is representative of someone who is "Christian if anything" (i.e. not Christian). An actual Christian would have no choice but to believe that, since your girlfriend does not accept Jesus Christ as her personal lord and savior, she is going to hell.
That's hardly a 'Christian' sentiment. I've been brought up to 'love thy neighbour' It's actually the attitudes of many in the church that believe the louder you preach and turning up at church on a Sunday means that you can behave as you wish during the rest of the week.
Weeell.... I think that many Religions can co-exist, and indeed do. However, I regret that - for me - Islam is an exception, as its core scripture mandates global theo-political domination. (a unique factor in the major religions). To put it bluntly PalSys - a Christian may think that his girlfriend is going to hell based on the instructions of Christian scripture. However, only a Muslim will actually send here there, based on instructions from Islamic scriptures. It's all rather sad. Meow Purr.
Really, I missed the part where it says you should hate all other religions. I guess I'm not Christian after all then. Though I'm pretty sure even the Catholic church allows intermarriage.
