OK, here's a directory that I thought was doing everything right, had good quality standards, added listings editorially, had a good backlink profile, was run very professionally, etc. In the circumstances, I'm really at a loss to explain why Google would de-index the directory. I'm starting this thread to see why people think that this happened. Let me know what your thoughts are. I feel really sorry for Shawn as I know that he poured a lot of time, emotion, effort and money into his directory. I can only wish him the best of luck in turning the situation around.
Could it be some mistake with the configuration of the new software? A screwy htaccess file, a bad robots.txt, a removal request that went bad?. To be honest I don't have the slightest clue.
perhaps he used some blackhat techniques with it... when you say shawn, do you mean the onwer of DP? very strange....its like the dollar linming bidding directory that got given PR0..
It is not the Shawn you are thinking --it Shawn Walters-- read this - http://www.avivadirectory.com/downloadblog/?p=286 I made a blog-post on authority web directories --after checking all --it was an authority directory till 17th July --2007. I listed my directory there in May.
Never heard of the directory but something the directory might have done, or owner had some issues with google staff maybe ? Or maybe its just temporary ? It happens all the time with google ?
Yeah, maybe he had an affair with a top google employee, so they slapped his site out of their SE No seriously, he must have been doing something, spamming, allowing banned content. Go through the google webmaster guidlines and see if theres anything you can see that he may have broken. PS : Thanks for adding my directory to your blogs strongest list, Jeff. I noticed i had 2 visits to my site that came from your site Mike
Actually , I was puzzled so I did some looking around the directory. And this is what i found The directory appears to be a modified dmoz clone, look at the structure plus the owners also run something called dmozsearch.com http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?url=uncoverthenet.com mind you they do take submissions , so it must have diverged from the dmoz content, yet the similarity Google doesn't like dmoz clones
This was discussed briefly in another thread... I think he is blocking the robots from access and the news feeds or articles he has may have somthing to do with it i belive.. The same thing happened to hotvnot.com and now its on 2nd page for Web Directory and that domain was banned as well but now is kicken butt.. thx malcolm
If I were to make a reasonable guess, it would be that it's likely related to the recent changes as dkessaris mentioned: http://utnblog.blogspot.com/2007/07/software-update-complete.html We finally completed the software update for the site. There are still a few bugs we are aware of and are working on correcting them. However, if you see some, please contact us with the error you encountered. You will notice all of the directory urls have changed to a more easy-to-understand format. The urls used to be in the form of www.uncoverthenet.com/dir/31/1.php, they have since been replaced with urls that give you an idea of what that topic is about.
note, i think only 1 page show on yahoo, would both yahoo an google not inex a site because of url re writing ?
errors possibly? http://cc.msnscache.com/cache.aspx?q=8308020283262 http://www.uncoverthenet.com/directory/Society_and_Culture
Ahhh, I hadn't known that. That looks very likely to be the case. He's pretty brave to change so many urls at once. I hope that this works out for him. This has been the case for a long time. But really, who cares about Yahoo!?
No pages in Google and One page in Yahoo. Still the site has an Alexa rank of under 10000. I wonder where it is getting all that traffic from. .
All the urls were changed in Directory Biz-Giant and mine isnt banned.. Results 1 - 10 of about 2,650 from www.directory.biz-giant.com. (0.03 seconds) Thats was about 1 month ago... I guess to each his own.... nonetheless, i hope he gets it settled and reindexed thx malcolm
Seriously, IMO, Google may think it using some bh SEO and ban it. There are many domains even off-line but Google still index them.
Hello We changed the script to phpld as it had horrible urls on the homemade php script it had before. Since then its been re-indexed and already has 2600 + pages indexed in google thx malcolm malcolm1, ! Ask !, Brian1970, dynn, NeoGen wowzers its the devil...
