Ok, There are literally tons of directories out there... Don't you think, at the rate some people are pumping out the PHPLD sites, that soon no one will pay for submissions, because there will be sooo many free ones? I haven't been running one long, but right now there seems to be a decent demand for decent PR/PS directory listings at a good price... But if directories keep springing up like the weeds in my backyard, the supply will quickly topple the demand... I'm not cutting down on the new directories (because I have one) but it is really necessary to have 5 or 10 low quality ones; why not have 1 and use the extra time to promote it? Just my opinion... PS, I wrote my own directory code using ASP, even though it looks like a normal directory, I have a greater sense of accomplishment then if I had just used a prewritten script.... I think if everyone did this there would be a lot less directories, and they would be of higher quality...
yes there are so many directories but very few authoritative ones. some directories doesn't even have a backlink in google.. so submit only to quality directories
Yes I agree there are also some low quality directories but since many websites are rolled out each and every day ,Search Engines find it difficult to index them it is were those directories help Search Engines in indexing them! So I strongly feel there would be many more directories coming out each and every day that would be of very great help to search engines
Haha, I like your analogy... But, if you were selling Nestle Spring Water, and literally hundreds and hundreds of other companies started pumping out low quality, cheap/free bottled water, don't you think it would attract customers from your high quality bottled water, which now seems pricey?
I agree with you. It's primarily why I haven't set up a directory. From a buyer's perspective one will always submit to the top handful of directories - these will prosper. But for other owners who have another PHPLD directory it will be very tough to get buyers. And for owners themselves this can't be a good thing. Too much competition makes it very difficult to set yourself apart. Which means an owner needs money and time to promote and promote well his/her directory. Skinny
Problem is that most people don't realize that there is still a huge market to be made from directories, only they need to be niche ones with unique designs that don't all look the same and contain the same links even if the descriptions are different. Just my 2c
What is the motive of all these people who keep creating new free "low-quality" directories? Why are they doing it? Thank you
I dont think there's TOO many. In fact, very small percentage of DP members are directory owners: check out>>http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=414876
See my answer to him and how he is wrong and also there are many directory owners in DP than those 71 who many not have voted in the poll!
Nice point but still you can find a LOT of free directories that really approve fast without really reviewing a submission because they aren't really getting any from reviewing the sites. I think the review payment is a very big difference in quality directories.
They can pump out their junk directories by the thousands and it doesn't make a bit of difference. Any webmaster that knows anything about SEO will go straight for the quality directories and one by one the junk directories will die.
1. no one wants to be the 'free "low-quality" directories', everyone dreams big, .... only few people grow to their dreams! 2. i think its but an irony of sorts,..... too many "low-quality" directories, yet too few authoritative ones! M.
alls any bottle water is purified tap water so I would prefer the champagne and or beer and so would most other people they prefer quality not quanity
No I don't. Those who are new to SEO are beginning to learn that poor quality directories will get them very little in terms of SEO benefit, and even less in terms of traffic. I think the more likely scenario is that we'll see fewer new directories. I don't find very many of the cookie-cutter, low quality directories in SERPs any more, so my guess is that they are earning very few AdSense dollars. And, it seems more and more difficult to draw submission fees. So, I think the 'gold rush' is over. However, I think people will still pay for good directories and that those directories will be able to increase fees as demand increases. /*tom*/
You r under-estimating Google. Google is very well aware of the phenomenon and I can show you how Google took away PR or de-indexed some free directories ( as a former directory submitter -- i have a very good list) who were nothing but link--firms. I am sure -Google is aware of directories on dropped PR domains too --so be careful QBCs! You could not even recover the domain cost you paid --forget about profit from submissions.
