Well I am willing to pay USD$10,and a +rep if you are able to fix this problem...;)

    Here is the story :

Well my Little brother was watching a movie, like he always does. He always stuffs around with the keyboard and mouse. He manage to get windows media stuffed up and not working. Then I thought to install PowerDVD... So i did... I realised I had one already installed, later version... So i tried to uninstall it, wouldn't let me... Had some crazy error... So then I thought to install it as there will be a prompt telling you, that you will uninstall current version for the newer version. So i did that.. for some strange reason it wouldn't work... So I shut the computer down.... And then ever since then when I try to on the computer... It comes up with the screen and choice of what your wish to do :

    " Safe Mode
    Safe Mode with Networking
    Safe Mode with Command Prompt

Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked)

    Start Windows Normally"

These are the choices although you are able to press Ctrl + Alt + S to get to "System Configuration"... If that helps...

    Every other choice :
    " Safe Mode
    Safe Mode with Networking
    Safe Mode with Command Prompt

Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked)

    Start Windows Normally"

Comes up with a blue screen with white writing,BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH, it says to these exact words :
"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

The problem seems to be caused by the following file : atapi.sys

    PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen,
restart you computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps :

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove and newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart you computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select safe mode.

    Technical Information :

    *** STOP: 0x00000050 (0xE2E0C018, 0x00000000, 0xF9DF8CB3, 0x00000002)

    *** atapi.sys - Address F9DF8CB3, DateStamp 3b7d83e5 "

    My MSN is : wassup_yall6969@hotmail

    I am currently Online!!!

    :eek:Help Please:eek:

    Thanks

As far as i know you can fix it by renaming atapi.sys into atapiNR.sys. Never had this problem myself though. Try and Google for atapi.sys error. Quite a few people are having the same problem.

do a system restore to the back date when ur brother fiddled with the laptop. this will undo anything that has happened since with any dll file.
fixes problems 99% times, if not 100%.

System restore will ask you a dat eto go back to. and dont worry, it wont touch ur data files, those will be intact. just go to Control Panel -> System -> System Restore.

    hope this helps.

and one more thing, to go to a safe mode click on the "last known good configuration" option. this should do the trick.
If that doesent start up ur system, use ur bootable cd to repair the installation. that will replace the corrupt dll files.
