Yahoo was the only search engine I was actually ranking okay in. After analyzing my competitors I noticed that backlinks seems to be a big factor of ranking high, so over the past couple of weeks I've been monitoring my backlinks and rank for my target keyword: Date - Backlinks - Position 05/07/2007 - 464 - 56 12/07/2007 - 466 - 57 19/07/2007 - 518 - 60 26/07/2007 - 532 - 151 I was a little curious that my position was increasing with my backlinks, but somehow I've suddenly jumped 90 ranks back?! I've been doing a lot of work, and updating my site regularly. Have I been penalized? Or is Yahoo messing around with the way sites are ranked?
I check the backlinks using Yahoo Site Explorer, and I check the rank using multiple websites I found on Google.
The same happened to me a couple of months ago. I have been building backlinks regularly and made one change to my title. Suddenly, I went from #3 to #33. The change to my title was definitely an SEO type change, so I'm guessing that there's an over-optimization filter of some sort at work here. The same happened on live.com, at the same time. /*tom*/
Just a little update... Backlinks: 569 Rank: 189 This is getting stupid, within the last month I have gained over 100 more backlinks yet jumped 133 positions backwards?!
That's not so bad, at least you're still ranked! I've gone from 15, 31, 42, 42, 43 and 101 to nowhere in a week. I've only kept one ranking that went down from 78 to 84! It's a good thing Yahoo doesn't send much traffic my way.
