Um I know plenty of people who take the pill for various reasons - not just because they "knew the guy" they wanted to have sex with. The pill actually helps with a lot of things other than protecting you from pregnancy.
I mean some other reason rather than getting your partner to use a condom. I really don't understand what benefits the pill are other than preventing pregnancy? Rob
Well, there are plenty of reasons, but the main reason would be that girls feel much better during their periods if they take the pill. There are many side effects in the beginning though, but you feel much better after 2-3 months.
There can be side effects in the beginning of taking the pill, but I didn't experience any. It's different for every woman, and any side effects experienced are typically very mild. As far as other benefits of the pill, there are several. For one, the pill can make your periods lighter with little to no cramping. Periods also tend to be shorter when you are on the pill. Many women and girls are prescribed the pill to make their periods regular. Also, there's medical evidence that says that taking the pill can decrease your risk of ovarian cancer, ovarian cysts, ectopic pregnancy, and endometrial cancer.
There really isn't anything to be afraid of when taking the pill. Provided you don't smoke (your risk for blood clots and other nasty side effects increases if you are a smoker over 35 and taking hormonal contraception) chances are nothing negative will happen. Provided you take the pill as directed and speak with a doctor if anything abnormal appears, you are fine. Overall, the pill is still a highly effective form of birth control, and benefits women in the other ways I mentioned above as well.
