The design isn't the best. Got a good name, but you might run into some legal problems with it.

A great name but a mediocre design. Using Altavista results is not going to get you very far since almost no one uses them anymore. The major problem you will have is that if you were to succeed on any level, Google will sue your pants off an win. That is way to close to their name to past mustard in a legal battle.

My best advice, build up the site, get some great backlinks and sell it before Google gets upset.

Why would the name attract Google's attention? Gwegle doesn't seem confusingly similar to Google, does it? If it is too similar, the banana and yellow logo should throw most people off the trail ;-)

    Anyway, about the site:

    1. When I do a search I get a security error alert probably due to a site you are advertising for. After clicking cancel the results load and they don't look too bad.

    2. You might want to at least use some free scripts to setup your own ad system, assuming your main goal is making money.

    3. Writing your own "real" search engine technology is a very large project. Depending on what your goals are and how much you already know it could be easier or it could be harder. Either way, you need to know at least one programming language. I have written my own, if you want more specific advice let me know.

    Good luck!

I don't like the design. It doesn't stand out and just looks a little 'tacky'.

Whilst minimalistic is good, try doing more with it. I'd personally use a different colour and logo image. Soft gradients are nice.

It's nice that your engine has an immediately navigational range of useful search types. However, the results I got were quite poor and unsatisfying. This is because Altavista is powering it, so it's not your fault.

Doing a search engine yourself would be a HUGE task and unfortunately I don't have enough knowlege to help steer you in a better direction here. All I can say is try to give your engine a more appealing design.

Some people have brought up the point about the domain name being too similar to google. Be careful of this. If it were me, I'd try and sell the domain and get a new, more unique one that you will not get in trouble over.

    good luck :)

Google is light years ahead of you Teh-Uploader, your safe man but try to do something different with it. You don't have to be a search engine for all the sites in the world, there's lots of those out there that have failed even with millions of pounds behind them.

You can make it big by catering to a select few.

Domain name is great, design is crap. Hire a designer for like $50 and you'll be fine.

How about those registered google with ccTLD? More worst isn't it? The only condition you will need a local precence and be prepared to get sued by Google. But at least you will be the proud owner of a Google domain.
