Most of them just didn't like the continual robberies, burglaries, and physical violence -- with the police and the disarmed citizenry effectively powerless against the criminal element. But hey, you may feel differently.
Man, Mexico seemed really interesting until recently. I mean, there are a lot of great retirement communities in Mexico. On the other hand, Mexico has crazy fascist gun laws and the usual escalating violence that occurs whenever honest citizens are disarmed. Plus, the Mexican tax system doesn't have a lot of appeal. And, of course, the recent political violence and lawlessness that occurred when the liberals lost the last Presidential elections was extremely disheartening. There will always be a place in my heart for Mexico, but I can't see moving my business or my family there.
Well weekends are busy times since everyone is pissed up and lots of people in A&E, but if it came to waiting or paying $xx,xxx, i can hold the pain that long, its nothing life threatening.
I loved Mexico, a few bucks can get you out of any situation. I was in Cancun during Spring Break (whooooooooooooo Spring Break!!!) and me and this American girl were trespassing on one of the tourist boats around midnight and I was having a bang on her on the boat. It was ace. Until the police caught us. We were in the police car on the way to the station facing a certain night in the cells until I waved $200 at them. They dropped us off on the side of the road immediately. We walked back to the party zone.
This was about 7 years ago. 30 bucks around that time was the going rate for getting caught trying to have a piss around the Daddy Rock/Daddy O area of Cancun. The police used to just camp around the area (around the restaurant where the bungee jump was) and reel the MO-FO's in LMFAO!!! They must have made a fortune.
If I have to relocate to some other country, I would choose New Zealand....the most beautiful place on earth.
With a top individual tax rate of 39% and a VAT of 12.5%, New Zealand is mostly of interest only to poor people.
if you have around 3 million dollars , some islands are for sale on the saint-laurent river in Canada
I like to shop occasionally on Vladi Private Islands. It motivates me to build my web empire. The trouble is, almost all of these islands are in some country or another. If I'm going to spend that much money, I want sovereignty.
But imagine your laying on a hammock and next thing you know theres a boat load of Polish landing at one side and Albanians the other. How would you even secure your own island?
Its always worth keeping an eye on Cuba...but i wouldnt do anything but sing Guantanamera for a a while. My GF, years ago, made an offer on la casa de AL. Caponne's place in Veradero Beach--shitty little restuarant...gorgeous house. I have doubts as to whether that will ever be feasable.
Canada, its beside US, its close and it has Free Health just like the rest of europe and we don't go to war all the time. Well, we didnt use to go to war, but our policy seems to have shifted a bit since that harper guy came to power.
