I read in another forum that they do. The reason they were giving were like 1. .info used to be free. 2. Spammers are using it etc. But when I checked FAQ in DP it says google does not discriminate between .com, .gov and .edu. Is that true? Is there some thing especially about .info? thanks suvi
No they don't thread differently , there are other factors effecting the results but the overall value is the same for them.If they had seperated them no info domain could rank well.
What they do care about is how long the domain has been registered and had an active website living there (longer the better). I've had old domains that I ignored for years that once I started blogging on leaped in traffic at a much higher rate then new .com's or .info's My advice; get your domains as soon as you can and decide later how to use them.
no they treat every domain extension same..what really matters is the backlinks and visitors..Your page rank and all that.....
The FAQ is correct Google for PageRank Checker and check out the No. 1 site. You will see that any .tld have a chance Search engines do not allocate different relevancy based on domain extension alone.
Exactly I think every extension is treated the same.... It would make no sense to treat other domains differently.. then nobody would of bought the .info's... And as I can see most webmasters do cuz it's cheaper.
IMHO - they publically say it doesn't make a difference, but there is a chance for flagging or devaluation with them. There are more than a few studies showing the HUGE amount of spam on .info domains relative to other TLDs, this can't go unnoticed. I would think that at very least they are flagged and watched closer during intial indexation than a .com or otherwise. ... is there an outright devaluation? Unlikely... but there is simply too much data on the high volumn of Web Spam on .info for there not to be some sort of contingency in place for assesing them. ..as with many things Google... we can never really know at this point.
I don't think so, I have use so many .info domains and they get good ranking to google.. it always depend on how you follow the rules of google and other SE
register 2 domains, one .info and one .com with a gibberish term like goober12dynamite, post the same page on each and wait for them to get indexed. Both pages will have the same links (0) and same content. Which will rank 1st? the .com everytime. It's a factor, the real question is how big. I think the answer is "not very". But .info screams spammy content, it limits you a lot, any social media submissions are way more likely to get sunk. It's just something you don't want to skimp a few dollars on. buy an old domain from snapnames, pool or clubdrop. the $80 is easily worth it.
i dont agree with that. there is no difference between info domains and com domains. they are the same for google seo
Google does not care what domain extension you use. The only reason why you see so few of them high up in the SERPs is because there are fewer of them than .coms and like others have said, because they are often used by spammers. Do a Google search for the term unblock websites. The sites in the first two results as of this posting, thunderunblock.info and instantunblock.com, are both mine. Ironically, instantunblock.com has many more backlinks than thunderunblock.info and is also older. However, Google seems to feel the .info site is worthy of the first spot. If it were truly biased against .info, I doubt this would happen. Then again, the keyword isn't as competitive as others, though there is competition for it. In addition, it can be noted that thunderunblock.info was also on the frontpage of Digg.com for a little while, though it was eventually removed.
Your website is rated and ranked based upon its content, backlinks, etc. It matters not what the extension is.
More important than Google's treatment of .info domains is HUMANs treatment of them. I believe it's far more difficult for a site with the .info tld to rise above the noise and get noticed and hence to succeed. I wouldn't recommend anyone spend much money trying to build an online empire on a .info domain. I mean no disrepect .info owners. I've been a brand/marketer on and off for many years and I know for fact that the first impression is the most critical aspect of whether a business will get the click/visit/order, subscription, whatever and because the .info tld has been abused by so many it just works against you. Invest some money and get a respectable looking .com, .net, or even .org.
I believe you are right. This is the reason why sometimes they don't rank as well. People are reluctant to link to info because of the spam.
That was a lot of replies. I see there are people who support both sides. But still the majority believes that google treats .info on par with other ones. Thanks a lot for every body who responded. suvi
