A paid regular submission to a well-known directory (no names, no pack drill) for one of my sites and the anchor text and description got changed. Now the anchor text change I could live with as the new version was OK; the description however, was another story. Grammatically incorrect, bad punctuation and the keywords I'd placed there, gone. 2 rewrites later and they accepted my version. Is this normal?
It is normal for a directory owner to edit and often rewrite bad descriptions, or, if they find that you have submitted the same description to several directories they will edit it to prevent duplicate content. However, most, would try to be gramatically correct about it.
im sorry you had a bad exprience.. i would rather prefer to think that it was just a punctual case and u were the unlucky one.. and now that its solved .. just forget about it. if they have become well-known directories, wouldnt it be coz they have being doing things right most of the times? in contrast with ur bad experience, yesterday i sent a mail to a well-known directory to change a listing of a domain i had redirected and i thought it could be a problem .. it was not and i got it changed in a matter of hours.
I edit the descriptions for virtually all listings submitted to my directories at least a little. However, errors should not be acceptable. If a webmaster makes a mistake, definitely let them know and get it fixed.
At AllBuziness.com we always try to rewrite the description and ensure that the title reflects the rules provided in our submission guidelines. It is essential to maintain an authoritative and useful directory. Unfortunately, it sounds like the directory you have been working with is amateur and new to the game. Consider this a lesson learned. For all future directories, try browsing around to gain a feel for the quality of the directory and the editors. In spirit to try to rectify your misfortune, I can provide you a listing at AllBuziness.com for 25% off the listed submission rates. Just PM me your details if interested.
