Consider this situation - you are the captain of your ship, a big one... u have recently found a tiny hole in ur ship which keeps oozing water. you have no equipment to fill that hole.. the only option is to keep collecting the water and pour it out to keep the ship floating. you have no workers to do that work and now you are getting tired of doing this work... now ....... will you let the ship sink, or will you keep pouring out the water tirelessly all your life and keep it afloat ?

I would pour out the water long enough for me to find land and just let the ship sink :D

How big is the hole exactly. If it's small enough, why not stick something in it. If I was tired, I would simply gather my things and abandon ship

This questing is a bit more philosophical than sticking things into the hole or waiting to land somewhere.

You are right. This has some analogy. Here ship is not a ship and water is not water. Is some one brilliant enough to crack this?

If not i will reveal the suspense after a few days :D

So the dilemma is when you are deep in problems, do you continue to save your situation (ship) in life (water) until the last breath or quit and do something else.

    OR

Escalation of commitment: When you have invested so much time & energy into something which has very low probability of succeeding but you continue to work more because you have already invested so much time instead of adapting a better step. Ship = Commitment, Water = Life

    OR

you are 6 year old and captain of your paper ship which has a tiny hole water keeps coming in. What do you do? Do you throw it away and make another one or continue to maintain afloat?

    Stupid, very stupid analogies

I think the point of this question is if you were trying to succeed in something, and there is a problem... Will you let that problem get in the way, even if you have to go to big deeps to keep solving it.

Very topical question considering the floods in my area! Would let it sink and move on to something more appealing, unless it was shark infested waters
