    Hi,

    I've heard recent debate about this; Google essentially ignoring H1 tags and giving H2 the weight.

    Anyone have any idea about this?

    Yes, I think you should use h1 near the top with important keywords.

    If the text appears to be too large you can control it using your CSS

    put your keyword phrase in H1 tags on your page. This tells Google that the following text is about your keyword phrase. Google weights H1 tags nearly as highly as title tags.

    Google definitely does not ignore h1 tags - use h1 as it was intended to be used for main headings, and h2 (possibly even h3, h4, h5 and h6) for subheadings.

    We are saying that H1 tag is an important tag.

    Google uses something called the Googlebot to look around the Internet at websites,those bots read each page and automatically list the page in Google's indexes under keywords based on their relevance in the page.

    Googlebot is a web browser without a screen, it understands the basic rules of HTML in that it places more importance or relevance on an <h1> heading tag than an <h2> and so on.

    Yeah, and there can be other issues too, such as line break, line height, etc.

    But it's very effective in terms of SEO.

    Header tags are in hierarchy order, H1 main and of high importance and following up to h4 etc, if h4 would of give more weight and importance to the content it would be named h1 (hold on, that makes no sense).
