Another bad point about it would be that if you had someone who didn't particularly like another member, they could make a thread, saying they scammed them.
If DP dont wanna do it themselves, somebody should make a website for DP to show the list of the smammers in DP with all details what and how they have done. DP just put it as a sticky and said something like you can go and check there do not discuss it here in the forum. XD just my idea.
DIGITALPOINTERS.COM is available! how about www.quickbuckcrew.com
its important to put a little effort into investigating the person your about to do business with. looking into there iTrades, how long have they been a member etc... i also should of pointed out that i don't think having a forum for scammer reports is a good idea, same reasons as Shawn.
"its important to put a little effort into investigating the person your about to do business with. looking into there iTrades, how long have they been a member etc..." Well what happens is the cost of being scammed and then the additional costs of now taking safeguards against being scammed makes it just not worth my time to do business at all. I'm certainly not going to operate at a loss.
you mena makeing a website to report scammers in DP? if yes, please let us know when the project finish and we can make our DP forum cleaner. thanks.
Yeah let us know when you are done with the site and see how good it goes on. Wish you best of luck guys!
Keep in mind the legal issues that a site like this could present. I'd take legal action very quickly if some random guy decided to post allegations online about me. There are two sides to every story, every time. For example, if one of my clients were to complain that the product/service they purchased from me was overvalued and submitted my user name to your site, you may very well post it. Even if you posted only my DP username (which is a copyrighted name), there are legal avenues available to me. I do see benefits, and you'll not likely hear complaints from any of my clients, but it's food for thought.
Me and sawz are not releasing any information on the project until we have done some more work. However, it will be a forum which will be tightly moderated and anyone can join. Slaggers and people who are using the site to flame and people who fail to give proof will be IP RANGE BANNED. Rob
Actually that's a very good suggestion, this will keep this forum up to date with the daily scammers.
of course this has been thought through. people falsely accusing others happens everyday, not neccesarily here, although it does happen, and will continue to happen. all that can be done is moderation and staying on top of everything, which will be done. Shawn specifically said no to a scammers board here at DP, for his own reasons. which is why www.digitalpointers.com was born. this site will be held to a high standard and anyone who joins to cause problems won't be a member for long.
I think Digitalpointers should be a website instead of a blog, so you can list all the scammers.... Hmm.. or maybe a updated blogpost with all the names can work too. Anyway Good Job to whoever is doing this.. we really need something like this in DP.
Instead of a scammer alert I would prefer a comprehensive list of dos and donts. For example, if I was to buy a website/domain, what should I look out for, what is the preferred way of transferring money and so on... Users would then add posts giving new warnings, not about a single user, but more about a new scam technique that you need to be careful about. That way, just before I buy my site I would go thru a checklist of things that should/would raise alarm bells and what I could do to protect myself a bit more. I know that all the info is available, but most of it a buried in endless threads or in page 101 of the forum. FFMG
Thanks, great thread. But as I said it covers normal scams/mistakes to be mindful of, it does not list some of the new less known scams. And in any case that only covers website buy/sell. There are other scams going around, (eGold, Paypal, Services, 'loans'), and so on. FFMG
Just use common sense. I haven't been scammed since November 2005. Anything that looks too good to be true, probably is. Rob
