Religion in the US Government?

Discussion in 'Politics & Religion' started by WebdevHowto, Jul 24, 2007.

First, do you think the government of the United States has a religious bias? If so, what is the bias and should it be allowed?

Second, do you think religion should be a part of government? Why or why not?

I dont know much about religion of USA, but i know that USA is found and established by different people of different religion in past.

That's why USA's slogan is "UNITED WE STAY"

And that means, it has no old traditional culture and past.

USA is like a company started by different people of uk, etc.

    (sorry if i am wrong)

But today USA is a king, and i wish that every poor and developing country should develop like USA.

Thanks for the reply, I don't know that it is the US slogan, but in any case it is "United We Stand" not "Stay".

As far as the US not having a "traditional culture and past", there is a lot of truth to that in that we are a nation of "different people" like you said. At this point in time I think there is a unique sort of "culture" in the US because of the mixture of people that have come to this country.

I too wish "poor and developing" nations will see development in the future and not the exploitation that too often occurs.

Do you have any thoughts of how religion has effected your own government?

Look at our constitution and printed money. They speak about God , so I guess that tells you something.

Do you think religion is still guiding the decisions of our current administration? If so, what religion to you think that is?

It does indeed; do you think religion still plays a big part in how the US is governed? If so, do you think that is a good or bad thing?

No. The Treaty of Tripoli, signed by John Adams, makes it very clear:
"As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquillity, of Mussulmen; and, as the said States never entered into any war, or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation, it is declared by the parties, that no pretext arising from religious opinions, shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries."

John Adams is long since dead. While I would love to hear his current opinion on the subject, that is not possible. I would be interested to hear yours. Don't speak for John Adams, just speak for yourself. I will not insult you for your opinion; I am interested in hearing it.

It outlines the position of the founding fathers; it was signed only 20 years after the Declaration of Independence was singed and ratified by the Senate by a unanimous vote.

I think there should be , but not anymore .. I think there should be ,cause rules , orders, and beliefs in that way would be believed by everyone and it won't create hard feelings from the people towards the government,Which might cause a country to fall.and the USA government is missing religion in their government at the mean time and their folks as you can see are always like half with the government and half against it.if the half which is against it grows more and more it's gonna be a problem for the USA in my opinion.

That actually wasn't originally there. A numerical majority (Christians) can influence anything.
