I heard many people here talking about 5%~10% CTR on their websites, well to be frank that's the dreams of me and I mean it. Do you have to be aggressive and excessive in placing the ads to achieve that good CTR? If not, how can CTR be so high, I can never do that. Other ways?
i agree with you, i tend to think people go to a site for their info, not to click ads. Unless you make the site ultra ugly where people would just click to get out but usually i would use 'back' for it.
You should try moving one ad around your site to see wich place it gets the most clicks. Some people have as many ads as they can but i preffer less. I like 2 ads or one ad one text link and search box.
Actually I have done lots of tweaking to eventually officially give up raising my CTR. It's never so good whatever I do. 5% seems impossible to achieve. Maybe it's because of the content.
I get less than 1% CTR. I think your website is interesting enough, people won't have the need to click on your ads.
i have a good ctr for my web sites but i'm only doing two thinks. * using section targeting * checking the new mfa site every 2 weeks
I remember before Google became super strict with images next to ads, it wasn't uncommon to have a site with 10-15%. My myspace resource site was getting a healthy 12-13% CTR every day for a couple of months, which was fantastic when I had around 300 unique visits a day. With the current Google rules I'd be very surprised to see any site still achieving that 10-15% CTR, unless ofcourse your site is MFA.
Ad placement is one part of it. I also focus on drawing in new readers. They're more likely to click the ads, which has helped to increase both the CTR and earnings.
Take a look at the example Burta gave at the end of the first post in this thread: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=207259 I think that layout will give a CTR of 5%+ on many sites, without being over-aggresive.
