Can you help me thinking about positive arguments which means basically the opportunities to start a dating site. People are always talking after each other and when some people says that dating market is saturated, then they will also tell it to other people. But there are plenty of niches to start. There are just a few "big" players in the game, but I am sure there can be more..

Please help me think about positive arguments only.. what are your thinkings?

I think you can compete with your own dating site IF you have a unique angle. Some of the big boys like Match, eHarmony, True and Yahoo Personals have big advertising budgets to grow really fast. You'd have to go for a niche such as this site has done: www.datemypet.com

You could create another free dating site like www.plentyoffish.com and have better features. The problem I see with a free dating site like that is that there are just not too many people who post serious profiles. If you have a site that rewards members for being active then it could be free but also attracts more serious people.

I thought about creating a site in which users are given more options for referring their friends. Refer 'x' friends and get to upload more pictures etc.

The only thing is I got too busy with other projects to follow through with that idea.

There's plenty of room for another dating site if you get creative. The good thing is that the market for this is HUGE!

I always think there room for everybody on the web. Just as long as you approach your target market from an unusual and original angle. Just don't go in and try to copy what the big boys are doing, cannot beat them there. Do loads of research and then try offer something they aren't

I doubt sites like datemypet will get big...

It's not welcoming at all the people who aren't fanatics of their dogs/goldfish/exotic koalas

you also have to be unique in your own terms so that you can be different from other sites.

yeah but thats there niche there angle it drives certain people there that wouldn't go to the big boys or anywhere else. Any idea in this area can become a good idea especially if it gets viral.

years ago i created a dating website, it grew beyound expectaions to the point that i became a full-time engaged by it (and still i am). but lately for the last 2 years i see that it is really becoming saturated, and very difficult to grow bigger - advertising costs are getting higer, almost unberable to be honest, plus there are just too many new ones... i used to rank well on google an dpractically lived on that years... then 2 months ago i was droped from the search results.... i search for advertising solutions but for now it seems they cost more than i earn from them...

I don’t think it’s over saturated yet. You just need to really narrow down your niche. Maybe something like dating websites for lesbians, midgets, people with tattoos, etc.. Just think outside the box.

I think the market is saturated, but if you have the knowledge and the budget you might succeed.

Starting a new website is always difficult because your site is empty:)
Why would someone visit an empty site or place an add on it?

If I would start a dating site I would try to buy an existing one which has already a phew hundreds members... Try to promote it in different ways then the previous owner
I don't believe you will ever be able to start a succesfull brand new one. ( unless you already have a adult related website with **** newsletter members or if you own a tv station...:)

and be aware that most of the dating webmaster around the world so not seem to be friendly (with rare exceptions...) ... it seems (fromt his forum) that in other industries they are more likely to cooperate....

Heres the way to do it, peeps:
    1) build a locally based date site, lets say the nearest major town or smaller city, and focus your site within, lets say 75 miles in any direction .
    2) scrape results from the big boys for members who are listed in that area (see plentyoffish for example..thats how he did it guys..) Dont do anything until you get a decent member base...remember..these sites wont do a thing until you have members/visitors..
    3) market off page/web (cheap road signs etc)
    4) rinse/repeat with other locales..

other options would be to make posts in related dating sites with a variety of sigs, member infos etc, ppc etc, but scraping is by far the cheapest. Is it morally right? thats for you to figure out..but go ask plentyoffish what they think about scraping and morality....at 10k a day or whatever that site is producing now.. :)
