vB Forum Help - I was banned for nothing

So I joined a forum, nothing to do with webmastering, and I just wanted to be an average member. I wasn't going to promote anything, I just wanted to chat about the forum's main topic. I introduced myself in an applicable room, familiarized myself with the rules and wanted to mention that I co-oped a search for the forum and gave a link much like this one

    Search DP

The "admin" as he/she called himself/herself edited the link from the post. Fine, that's fine, no problem. It's just that in the rules it said no blatant advertising, so I figured a harmless link to a search wouldn't be a big deal. Somewhere in the forum it said I could message the moderators with any questions so I did. "Admin" messaged me back.

"I don't see why this is needed the forum already has a search and I don't know if you set it up this way but I think there is a way to generate revenue from the search so go scam another forum, it won't work here."

This pissed me off. I really wanted to just chat, no ulterior motives. But he was right, I did have the search returning ads with the results. So I made the search "not-for-profit" and messaged back stating my case. I just said 'yeah you're right, I'll turn off the ads but I think this is a great tool to search forums and I use it all the time in other forums and I think people could benefit from it, but if you don't want to it's cool. blah blah blah".

I logged on later today, yeah

What the hell. I was trying to be nice and just help out. This horses ass booted me? So I registered with a new name and email address. Made a post, went back a while later and oh yes there is was again

"You have been banned for the following reason:
    No reason was specified.

Date the ban will be lifted: Never"

So what's the deal. Can I get back into this forum? Do they log IPs? Was I out of line?

...Damn, I hope don't get banned from DP for the link in this post.

IMO yes you were out of line, first post being a link to a 'profit' making link for yourself. Sorry but that's spam, pure and simple the way you did it.

That's good to know, but I didn't want or intend to spam the forum. Was it deserving of being banned? I corrected the problem appropriately, or at least I thought. I tried to make it right because I value the forum, much like I value this forum. I messed up, I apologized, I just don't believe I should have been banned.

You have to understand a busy forum deals with people doing this every day, they can not take time out to 'trust' an unknown will not do it again.

Perhaps it was to harsh as it was not the most horrible spam ever, on the other hand spam needs to be dealt with severely on a forum or it gets out of control.

Very true, and I learned my lesson. So I made a mistake, I admit it. Can I get back into this forum because I really do want to be a member for personal, non-business reasons? Or do I take my lumps, learn from them and find another similar forum. The only reason I am clinging to his particular forum is because it is the biggest in its topic. I guess this is why it's not wise to mix business with pleasure. Thanks for the help.

A lot of people get banned for dumb reasons. This is simply because the staff think you were gonna turn into a spammer. You corrected it and if they gave you a second chance, thats great. Just think it could've been worse and you could've gotten banned for having a dynamic IP, like I did with Atari.

They looged the ip or i think you used the same email address to sign up , your ip was not banned , if it was then you can never , see the forum , just use proxy or vpn and different email address to sign up , but the way you did is simply spam bro , try to be good next time.

Just use a proxy site to make a new account, keep browsing the site through the proxy for several days, and then you can return to using the site directly. :p

I would have considered it a bit "spammy" too ;)

I agree it was "spammy" but I don't think it was spam. Def. not bannable spam.

True spam, to me, has no worth, no value. I believe the link I was trying to post had value.

Posting links to earn profit in any forums is a spam
    You shall never do it
