Friendly suggestion for directory owners (yes, another one)

Directory owners, you want your sites to look professional and be viewable to ALL potential customers, right? Well, for those of you who do not already do so, I highly suggest that you quality-check your directories (young or old) in Macintosh browsers.

I use Safari and FireFox for Macintosh. I frequently come across directories (most of which are posted here by DP members) that have terrible alignment problems and various coding errors that make the pages nearly impossible to read. Sometimes, the navigational links don't work, including the "Submit" link!

    1. The Macintosh audience is growing larger every day. Don't throw money out the window because Macintosh users hit the road!

    2. W3C is your friend. Use it!

    3. If you want to know what your directory looks like on Safari, Macintosh's default browser used by millions, just post your email address here and I will send you a full-screen screen shot.

    Just my 2¢.

I agree with you. I don't have mac at home/work.

At the same time I cannot post my email id here. :)

BTW, why do you need our email id?

As stated in #3 above, I'm offering to do people a favor by emailing a screen capture. How else would I get a screen capture to each person? I don't have time to set up image hosting for every person who asks for a screen capture.

Anyone who is afraid of SPAM can just PM the email address to me, but I will only do this for people who contribute to the thread, which will help to spread the word about the need to quality-check on Macintosh browsers. :D

That's the way to go! I actually bought a cheap Dell just so that I could quality-check my sites on all PC browsers. It was worth every penny X 10!

I remember. Your "Submit" button didn't work on Mac, right? Glad I could help. :D

Apple released a new version for Windows users a few weeks ago.

That has nothing to do with rendering on the Mac version. It's nearly as different as the rendering between IE for Mac and PC.

I want to clarify that if one's directory passes CSS validation, it will almost always look (and function) the same on all browsers, both PC and Mac.

Hmmm so if the site validates at W3C for CSS and HTML the chances are it will look fine on a Mac?

I don't have access to a Mac so I'm gonna send you a PM :D

In my vast experience is cross-platform quality-checking, yes, that is the case. Every time you create a new site, just run it through W3C, correct the errors, and you will be fine.

That site isn't working on my PC or on FireFox for Mac. I enter a site and click "OK," but nothing happens.

I completely agree!! I only use a MAC because I am a designer, but I have had to install parallels and run Windows on it just to render some pages correctly.

I've been told that DirectoryDump Web Directory renders fine on a MAC. If you spot something just let me know.

I would like to know if my directory http://www.allskytv.com has any problems on mac or any other browsers for that matter.

A user contacted me saying there was a problem in firefox 1.5 but i believe this was caused by a plugin installed in the browser that draws a coloured pattern around nofollow links. (I use nofollow on some internal links).

I have tested with firefox 1.5, 2.0 and ie and see no problems myself.

Let me know any problem you can see.
    Thanks!

That's right guys! Pay attention. Here alone we have 20 Macs. It is said that even some of the most popular directories look bad on Safari.

Not you Rob - you look great!
