signatures in forums

There is a .org forum that I want to register on for the signature, but they do not allow links in the sig. So my question is, is it still advantageous to register and put the link in the sig, but not post? They also have a place to put your "home page url" in the control panel.

    Thanks for any advice.

Check the profile of long term members, do they have PR and their site as a hyperlink on their profile page? If yes then yes, but you will have to post alot to create links to your profile page.

Your time would be better spent joining a forum that allows signatures and posting there.

    ok, thanks for the replies.

I guess my follow up question would be if I put my website url in the user control panel in this .org forum, would google see this as a link to my site from a .org website?

You'll show up in the user list.

Might as well go ahead and do it.

I wonder what is special about links from .edu domains? Are .edu links better than other links?

Yes. .org weighs basically the same as other extensions.

Also: A tip for using this method: make sure that the links do not contain no follows. You might want to double check by viewing your signature when you're logged off.

IMO check out other members sig that will gave you much more details of the forum...i think every forums gave you a part of a control panel that you can also put your homepage but then not all can see that...only those who will click your profile but i tell you i dont think all the members of the forum do that...

I have tried many sig links ,they will give rewards to contributors ,the more you post ,the more you get (if they're not nofollow).
Believe it or not , only signature links (30 + sites) I got one of my site up to PR 5 !

.edu sites are kinda automatically seen as "trusted sites" by search engines. This gives them more weighting than generic domain extensions.
