As far as my knowledge goes, if the port is full duplex, then you can push the same amount of data in and out...now figure out. Any comment on the new proxy hosting plans I just proposed?
Server Specs? No Adlogger? Why have a proxy if you endanger your Adsense account with it? CgiProxy will use lees ressources/run more efficient - highly dependent on server specs though (http://proxy.org/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1181602164/1) How do you want to prevent that? Not good for the proxies - no pages indexed in search engines. Generally: plans have too much BW - depending on server specs though.
Planning to start wth an AMD64...If there's enough demand, would migrate to a high end server later. I guess adlogger can be remotely hosted...also, I may provide a mysql DB if personally requested for adlogger. Nowhere in that thread I could find CGIproxy is less resource intensive than it's php counterparts. Latest phproxy has hotlinking protection built in and there are mods available for other php proxy scripts too. Disabling hotlinking is better for the site owner as well as the host. Many people think it's bad to stop hotlinking...but why would you let someone leech your bandwidth and resources without any revenue? I'd manually test out the hosted proxies for hotlinking. Recently, there has been quite a talk around that proxified urls are being indexed by search engines and content filters blocking them by analyzing the common encoded urls for sites like myspace etc. Personally, I've banned such urls from being indexed...it's sort of privacy issue too; with such indexed pages taking up bandwidth while re-indexing and almost nil traffic from search engines. What kind of bandwidth and prices do you recommend?
Cgi Proxy is faster than php proxy and you can have secure server access but it use 10 time more resources than php proxy.
Resource usage is the main issue for shared proxy hosting. Latest phproxy can login to sites, browse SSL sites and acceptably fast enough.
Personally I would not buy your package personally. It sounds as if it will work for startup proxies or proxies with out a lot of traffic. Personally I have one proxy that by its self often has over 200 connections at any given time and uses about 1000 GB of bandwidth per month on its own. On a 10Mbps box with the server maxed out 24/7 you can only push about 3000GB of bandwidth in a month. I currently have a dedicated box with 2GB RAM and 2000 GB of Bandwidth and I am in the process of upgrading because I am maxing every thing out. LOL. Its great for business, but a bit of work. Proxies suck resources and bandwidth if they get big. I have even limited the file size to 30K and I have cache handlers and bandwidth mods installed. (cache handler and bandwidth mod cut my traffic in half) Even with these I now use over 50GB per day. With school starting up over the next several weeks it will bring massive increases as well. I have one site in the top pages of Google and more on the way up too and that brings HUGE traffic. So personally I would not buy it but I think it is most definitely a resonable package for someone new or low traffic. Needless to say from a server admin point, if people are promoting their proxies well then I would expect a high turnover as they will shortly outgrow you hosting package. I changed hosting 3 times within the first month of starting my proxies, and that was when I had no idea what I was doing. Just my two cents. MAtt
True...that's why I mentioned that starters and mid-traffic proxies would be my potential customers...not some "monster proxy"... And yes, when you reach a stage where you get loads of traffic, then you make enough money to buy your own dedi box...but >90% proxies aren't highly trafficked hence lesser earning and have to look for low cost proxy hosting...isn't it? BTW, I'm getting a AMD dual core box soon to start
OK...I'll be getting hold of the server soon and finalizing the hosting plans. Could anyone gimme more tips and tricks for making this venture a success? Should I use manual billing or use some billing script from the start? Is it necessary to have a website in place or I can just start without it?
Hmm...no replies Anyway, I have nearly finalized the hosting plans. Plan : Starter Disk Space : 250MB Bandwidth : 50GB Domains : 1 Price : $7.60 / month Plan : Mini Disk Space : 500MB Bandwidth : 110GB Domains : 2 Price : $14.88 / month Plan : Mega Disk Space : 1GB Bandwidth : 200GB Domains : 4 Price : $26.33 / month Bandwidth Upgrade : $3.43 per additional 10GB Comments/feedback/queries appreciated... BTW, we are planning to launch on August 1st
Yeap, planes are good. Have you set limits on CPU / RAM usage per account? Also, where is the server?
As the server will solely host proxies and the most important determining factor is bandwidth here, no CPU/RAM constraints are needed to be set. BTW, we'd only host php based proxies (phproxy, zelune, glype, surrogafier, etc.) No CGI-proxies allowed - which adversely affects system resource usage. Also, APC php opcode cacher will be in place to minimize server load AMD Athlon X2 dual core server @ burst.net DC (New York)
No restrictions? I hosted a proxy, which used 1,400 mb of ram out of 2gb ram on the server. And he was paying $10 a month for it. Server cost $210, hardly making any money? You have to have restrictions.
Well, such a proxy will end up eating up the bandwidth allocations soon enough and if it goes overboard, beyond we can hold (sort of "monster proxy"), then simply asked to move elsewhere. Again, we'd offer service to small and mid-traffic proxies only. Monster proxies can always buy dedicated/VPS
Not everybody is so honest if their proxy is a "monster" (like the word btw lol). They also might now know if it classed as such. The bandwdith cut off, well that could backfire on you aswel. I'll use the guy i had again, the traffic wen't genuine people, it was a Japanese yahoo bot! This was the problem - it gave him a 7.4 server load (average was 0.02) and we had a lovely flashing red button Anyway, thats just my advice!
PayPal - primary, preferred payment mode. MoneyBookers - Though I have an account, I don't use it. e-gold - I don't use.
