Ok i am not a PR maniac..but still i was curious and want to know whats the difference between http://domain.com and http://www.domain.com

because for my domain when i check Backlinks..they are different for both..what does this mean..do they also at times have different PR's??

And which is much better' for getting more backlinks,if you can say that at all...

I dont know www. matters for page rank of the site. But "www" means world wide web. On earlier days, site that is accessible to the world is generally used with the www domain. Now days, for the convineance, every one uses the site without www and most of the domains will work on both formats.

Because sometime site that link to you will do this
or sometime the web master will do this
    .

And Backlink checker count them as two separate domain.

Yeah it's personal preferance. Redirect them to the same, and add a preference in Google and don't worry about it.

if I do nothing on it, and sometime use www.site.com, and some link it to site.com

    anything I will lose?

For search enfines, 2 are different urls although it may look same to humans.
non http version should be redirected to http version (use 301 redirect)

301 redirect will help pass all PR juice.

if you want to set any specific association, you can do that in google webmaster tool

jackieblue, but it influences PR. Do remember that.

with or without www is not the same for PR, since backlinks will be counted differently

No difference at all - the PR for both of these will eventually catch up to be the same for both.

Guys i appreciate what you said..but what i wanted to know was in context of how PR sees my sites..

i mean do they take www and http:// as same or if i put the htacess..the PR will be the same for both?

Backlinks are different for both as i said before also..

can you show me some examples where www and non www has same PR?

check your own site for that matter.

the easier way to do it is by changing the settings in webmaster tool to "Do not set any association". This will be lot better rather than setting your site to www. or non www

godmode do you agree that as far as PR is concerned www. and http:// are differently considered?
