Do a lot of directories use 'nofollow'?

Discussion in 'Directories' started by acuman, Jul 22, 2007.

I am new at this and just learned how to check for 'nofollow'.

So I just found 3 directories that I am listed on that use it. That sucks!

I thought directory owners use follow? Why would they make it nofollow?

Since I am new at this if anyone wants to double check for me I can pm you those 3 directories and you can check for me if I am mistaken. (I would rather not name them publicly...and I also could be wrong...new to this)

    Thanks!

that is true on the nofollow thing, some will give you the nofollow on the free links and the follow on the paid!

You can find many directories that actually do not use 'nofollow' and still free.

    Thank you.

dhruv37 double checked for me and said the url is follow so all good.

Backlinkchecker had listed them as nofollow so I wanted to double check

I did "view page source" and searched for nofollow and it came up on those 3 directories so was unsure, but just learned that it is diff. for url so its all good.
I just don't know how to check it that way.

    Thanks for your help.

The only real uses are for PR hungry individuals wishing to not pass pr to thier submitters
and in the end hording thier PR...

An utterly waste off time submitting to them in my opioion.

Actually a few paid directories allow free links as no-follow, reciprocal links as follow, and other links as paid. But that should not be done IMO.

Where nofollow is often used is where directory owners who allow free submissions to their directory simply for content!

True, this sucks and any such directory should be mouthed off and brought to light.

This is a sheer waste of time for the directory submitter.

Directory owners shouldnt use Nofollow. That is so pointless, why would you even have a directory? Everybody nowadays have directories...even 10 ys old kids, probably they invented the nofollow .

i use nofollow for some internal links (alphabetical listings, livepagerank, tag cloud) because they are a lot of pages with no unique content. it's just for robots, i wouldnt place a nofollow to the sites users submit.

A lot of directories use "nofollow" with their free option and then use the "follow" with paid option.

If its a really good site with traffic nofollow is not completely useless you can still get traffic from people clicking your link. For seo nofollow is completely useless.

    Guys

Please note that the default setting for free links, with phpld 3.10 upwards

    is rel=nofollow

It has to be manually changed if you want to avoid no follow on free links.
