Do people still optimize their sites for MSN? It seems MSN is even dead nowadays. I don't see any traffic coming from there any more even though I have some decent keywords ranked high. I have bought a domain for MSN SEO while back, thinking I will get top 5 with this keyword I researched for Adsense. But now I think it seems to be waste of time.
I generally see a rise and fall with msn traffic, but i think the more search engine visibility your site has the better.
MSN provides 0-10% of traffic to my various websites, 10% being the most. I seo for google, and msn and yahoo normally just comes along for the ride.
Yeah, I don't know what is happening with MSN or Live.com anymore. First they stopped reporting links and then had an algorithm change so that sites that were showing well disappeared and other sites that weren't showing appeared :-(
SEO for Yahoo, Google, and MSN are different. Yahoo seems to be a most complicated SE for optimization...
I do SEO for Google for other sites that I own, but I have a domain I want to use exclusively MSN SEO. But I guess it's kind of a waste of time?
Wouldn't bother wasting time with SEO for MSN. If you have a domain name with your keywords in it you stand a better chance of climbing in MSN. .
I agree with the others..Wouldn't really bother to deal with MSN. They do send bits and peices of traffic but ranking number one with them isn't going to do much. I would rather spend my time optimizing for Google and trying to rank high in Google..If not google, then yahoo hands down!
MSN is almost useless as far as I can see. I have hundreds of sites and msn is almost non existent in terms of traffic even though I list highly for excellent phrases. there is an easy way to get to high on msn, if anyone is interested then I will put posting up, dont expect much in way of new tricks here. it is very simple and i cant be bothered to type it out now but if anyone really wants to know i will post. Optimise for Google and Yahoo and forget the rest as they will pick up on what is going on. I find Yahoo very easy to work with, Google is the hardest.
Ok. I agree with you all. But here is the question and something I don't quite understand. MSN is dead, but they are the 3rd biggest SE. The gap between Yahoo! (#2) and MSN is huge, I understand. But then, millions of people surely use MSN I would think. If that's correct, how come we can't see any traffic when we rank so high? I'm talking about some serious competitive keywords that many people type and search for, including 1-word keyword.
What I've noticed, if you concentrate on optimizing for mainly Google, and yahoo to some extent you end up doing extremely well on MSN SERPS anyways without paying too much attention to them. I tend to receive decent traffic from MSN but its funny my stats counter always has google at the top, then yahoo and finally MSN for all my web projects.
i personally dont know anyone who uses msn, i live in england. maybe its more popular in other countries. i get hardly any traffic at all from msn.
Yes, MSN can make you money but it really depends on your market.. I rank highly for 2 mid sized markets in MSN organic search that generates any where from $200-$400 per day in sales.. Nowhere near what it would generate from an equivilant ranking in G, but it's profit..
Ok, someone asked me to put this up, as promised here it is, nothing special here. please feel free to add comments. MSN indexing and ranking have 1 phrase per page title=phrase | url or company name meta key word=phrase meta description=phrase very close to the beginning and mention similar h1=phrase (add id=phrase to tag) first sentence=phrase first paragraph=phrase in bold other copy in body=phrase in italic link out to external site=phrase at least one alt image=phrase other alt tags=similar phrase elsewhere on site point anchor text to desired page=phrase (if we were using widget on home page as our phrase then the anchor text widget from another page in the site would point to the home page) use link at foot of page to go to id=phrase on h1 in page submit site to msn get article written using phrase several times and sign with author using phrase as anchor text. send article out to usual article distribution *********************************************** thats it. your site will rank well in msn for phrase and also related phrases. once you have your ranking, you can then add an extra keyphrase to the page. if you are only interested MSN and not the other search engines then go a bit heavier on the phrase in the copy and put several versions of the phrase in the key words and title. this can be too spammy for other search engines but MSN does not seem to mind.
