First of all im not looking for an ideal reply or for a perfect answer, im more interested how each of you view placing RSS Feeds on your directories, some people say yeah their cool and help and then ive read others who are not so keen on the idea. Have you seen positive results or negative results? problems with duplicate content or problems making them specific to your needs? Throw anything else in that you think about this, good, bad or your own questions too. thanks pipes
Hi CReed, im thinking more about the placing of feeds from elsewhere onto a directory for content. A very good point though regarding the subscription to a directory feed, i imagine is quite rare.
I have heard 2 opinions about it : 1) Creates supplemental results on Google (thats what i am afraid of ) 2) Creates content for your "contentless" directory ( directorydump and alivedirectory are using it ) Dont know whats true.
I have that same confusion over it as yourself, well you could say its caution more isn't it, its why im hesitating over it.
If big directories live directorydump and alivedirectory are using without worry, then I think there should not be a problem. Why not give a try
MeetHere, a good point actually, then i can truely find out for myself, i know theres no ideal situation or setup to follow and maybe other factors on others directories are causing certain problems where other directories seem to be doing ok with the RSS.
A lot of it depends on the implementation. I've seen it quite a few times where it creates so much clutter on the page it becomes hard to tell where the ads, listings, and feeds start and stop. Generally, I don't like them - would rather see a good article or something else.
i personally dont like rss feeds on my directory they mostly end up as supps and how many people actually subscribe to them
hello... Ive disconnected mine as its just creating duplicate content as far as im concerned but it does and will have its purpose soon enough.. thx malcolm
i think it helps you get indexed faster, yet new pages gets supplemental ... and to get those out you have to do inner page link building. Thats all i have to say ..
Well i think they help.. with rss you can have fresh content and its automatically updated, but the rss content need to be spinned to avoid duplicate content, untill now i didnt find any script that can output a "readable" spinned article... so i didnt implement it in my directories yet.
if i wanted to add content to my directories, i would much rather have unique contents on my site than replicate someone else's.... my 2 cents.
I see a mixture of views from you guys, quiet contemplation for myself i think, even my horoscope is telling me not to rush a particular something. Thanking everyone, really appreciate your opinions on it.
