Question About Unclaimed Articles

Discussion in 'Content Creation' started by Oosha, Jul 22, 2007.

I've written a few articles for a couple of clients and notified the clients after completion. However, I've had no response from them.

I am curious about how long writers in this forum usually wait for clients to claim their articles, before going ahead and selling them. It's only been a couple of weeks.

No, I haven't taken any advance payment.

    Thanks

Thats a good question, I've had this happen to me a few times this month unfortunately. Basically i've just moved on and counted my losses.

I'm not sure whether you delivered them the articles or only notified them about the completion of the work. As far as the response is concerned, you reserve the rights till you get payment, but in order to have a safe side, I think you should not sell the articles to any other person before the final notification to the client. And yes, make sure that they've got your notification like you didn't send the email to a wrong email address or something like that.

Have you tried contacting them in public,ie through the threads? I would really hate to spend the time putting articles together and then receive no response. (Hasn't happened to me)
Personally I don't take payment before completing work purely because I want to know that the buyer is completely satisfied, however I think a couple of weeks is far too long and very disrespectful. If they are still active in the forums leave a pm and sell them if you can. How long are you expected to wait after all?
    Best wishes

This has never happened to me prior to this and these are first time clients. I wonder if they have a genuine reason for not responding. I really don't feel comfortable posting their names in public.

Maybe as per Analyst's suggestion here, I should just send them a final notification and see what happens.

Just that, it feels like a wasted effort.

Fortunately, all my other clients have been wonderful, although I never take any payment before handing over the articles.

    Thanks guys for the responses.

    Two weeks...

After a few days of first contact these articles would have been posted or sold. You're too nice for your own good.

I would give them final notice and then sell the articles to someone else that might want them.

My suggestion for you is that you must take the pay first and then only start the job which they assigned to you :D

    I've had the same problem.

Migga has refused to pay for 5 SEO articles I had written for him, and I've found the articles in question when googling random parts of the articles.

There really isn't much you can do except move on, and let people know so that they don't work for that person anymore.

If this is really true, report Migga to a mod and give him a -ve itrader so that everyone knows.

There is more you can do.

Start by sending Migga a cease and desist letter telling him to pay you for the articles or take them down. Let him know that you will be taking further action if he does not compensate you for using these articles. I'd be inclined to charge him more for the trouble he's caused, but that's up to you.

If he does not take the articles down, then contact his webhost and let them know that he's using stolen content on his website. Most webhosts will take the site down. Contact the search engines as well, letting them know he's using stolen content, and they will remove the website from their search engines.

When the site's down and has been removed from search engines, sell the articles to somone else.

I guess within the joining of one day, i stuck into this scam too. I m not sure but i have written 5 articles to one user at DP and within 2 mins, he refused to take the articles. Anyways, I'm having few more questions in my mind. That I wish to ask all of you. Please check my thread in general chat section. But, it is really strange that i really wish to share with you all.
