I know this has been asked many times, however I beleive the recommended amount of keywords with in a document changes, I used to base mine around 5 percent or justover, however regular searches have shown the leading results for a select few of my kws have around 2 % density. I know this is only part of being ranked however its still important, imho, please no smartass answers. What do the majority of people use, the reason I am asking is i'm ripping an old site apart in the hope of getting it listings gain.
Generally, I recommend about 2% to 3% for all of my clients. It seems to work well and I have had many clients tell me my articles have hit first page Google.
That sounds good, i used to use alot more back in the day, but times have chnaged and it appears my websites haven't. Thankyou nodoubt
To be honest I don't pay much attention to it these days and I think Google is scoring it less and less....but I just did a check on one of my sites that is ranking well and it is about 3%
Keyword density means very few b/c it is very easily manipulated, just like meta description or keywords. Nothing compares to good link building.
i once had a site that was doing almost okay on google (15), and really bad on yahoo (70? 90?). so i pushed the keyword density to 16%, it went to 1 on yahoo, overnight, and 16 on google. i wasn't unhappy.
I wouldn't go over 5% with Google, as long as it's on the page at least once, and in the title tag. The most important thing to Google is the incoming link text from high PR, related sites.
I think the #1 result for [orlando refinance] is a perfect example... emulate her, by all means: http://209.85.165.104/search?q=cach...a+to+Up+wipeout+your&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1&gl=us -Michael
Thanks for all the positive replies bar one smartass LMAO, I over the years have used anything from 2 to 12 most of the time with no knowledge. So it seems safe to conclude around the 3 percent mark is where im heading. A lot of work ahead, Thanks all Mvandemar you couldn't resist could you, nice example.
Yup..Yup...Yup...Yup... The days of KW density are gone.. Welcome to the age of Phrase Based Optimiztation -- built upon Google's ' Prhase Based Indexing and Retrieval technologies.... List of PaIR resources Also -- Phrase Based Indexing and Retrieval Spam detection in a phrase based information and retrieval system Phrase Based personalization of search In short, we no longer think in terms of simple KW density as much as we do along the lines of the above theories ( From more than 8 Google patents since 2005 ) 2c
Thanks il take a look, so thats what ive been doing wrong all these years, either that or I've been lucky in some cases and unlucky in others.
To be honest, phrase based stuff is only the last couple years... KW density stuff still worked fine until maybe mid-2006 or so. You see KW stuffing is/was a major tactic of black hatters, moving away from such a dependance on it helps the SEs in combating Web SPam. .. a logical evolution..
I have the best results with a KW density of 2 to 3. If I over optimize, like KW stuffing, then the page just falls off. TxDon
I completely agree with thegypsy. KW density is dead. There is no magic number to rank #1. Its all about presenting fresh, valuable content and getting links that are on topic and perceived as valuable by Google. If your content is built for visitors then it should be very natural for your keywords to appear enough to rank well.
I dont know if industry plays a factor in density but I know within the real estate industry I have seen a lot of top ranked sites with density anywhere from 10 to 18 percent.
