and this is the best thing that I thought, create a buzz to webmasters and you will definitely gain much. but he seems to say general directories, but looking at the link: command in google yields a directory list also. besides, directories are meant to be a vertical search, was it? or i interpret it wrong.
It was funny, my visits showed page strength for my site from 0 to 3.5 The backlinks and inclusions on DMOZ and other directories were never accurate and sometimes 0 and I actually lost faith in the usefulness of the tool. But it seems that it gains a lot of followers even with all these glitches that it has .... very strange!!
Rob - I can tell ya what his article/post on that will say----( I have been following some SEO biggies for few months now--studying them -- and now I am familiar with their modus operandi) Mr. Rand would say-- paid links are BAD-- but some directories who take review fees like Yahoo are Good. And he would do little but to submit to Jeff's list, do some link-baiting on Diggs, Netscape/Orkut -- and buy some other related links. Isn't buying links all SEOs do-- and they keep Matt & Google happy by selecting some targetted Keywords to do PPC with G AdSense? ( You know it is true Rob) They do nothing more. All these so called famous SEOs have a big network -and they organize big-big conferences where Matt Cutts attends. They say Yes Yes BOSS to whatever Matt Cutts say---about SEOing. I have been participating in discussions on Mat Cutts blog about paid links --and Matt Cutts himself referred to a renowned SEO -firm/blog pronetadvertising.com -as ideal SEO. One smart fella --pointed out that SEO blog was having a Text Link Ads banner displayed proudly. The next day it was removed. Now go and see-- they are again displaying it. So these SEOs --are just after money. If you have the resources -I have the resources -- I am sure we can be better than them. You know how your DD is ranking in first page of G for hundreds of terms that even you don't know $$$$ Talks-- and they are big because there clients are big. But they are not better than you or me.
I think there's a lot of confusion about both my intentions with the post and my opinions about all sorts of other things. I'll try to make a clarifying post next week (though I'm in SF/SJ on Monday & Tuesday so may be a bit slow).
Yip cant wait for the next video as i dont think many understood the meaning of the context Do try and get the facts out more clearer this time if possible thx malcolm
Funny he would attack Aviva. Aviva is one directory that has quite an impressive amount of organic links, due to it being on Digg homepage more than once.
I hope to see a better comment on the issue also. Opinions without some reasonable reasons and facts are no longer my interest.
I don't have access to the full article, but the few clips I've seen do come across ,,,,,, not very good There is little evidence of a systematic understanding of how SE's actually behave an how they interact with other sites an directories. SERP Position of directory The test on avivadirectories positioning for its meta title is bizzare a, The tester (seomoz) is confusing a directory with a simple webpage optimising for a single, an in this case meaninless term, b, The tester is either not conversant with the fact that to rank for that meaningless term, aviva would have to point its link buildin campaign in that direction, link text anyone ?, thereby ranking for a completely useless term or the tester believes that avivadirectory should simply rank for absolutely any random term they pull out of a hat. neither option is,,,, b, Page strenght. A metric popularised really by avivadirectory, ironic that, by the way a popular proverb about canines, hands and feeding comes to mind,,, anyway is ps worth anything ? Well i thought it was, right up till this article reveal the true level of understanding in the underlying organisation, at this time one realises its mostly a marketing tool, an probably less useful than Alexa rank It would be nice if the full article where published unedited for public review,
I'm really curious as to how a directory gets on the digg homepage. I'm not being a smartass, I just don't get it.
Jeff has wrote several articles aimed at the blogging community that have become very popular, e.g: http://www.avivadirectory.com/successful-blog-launch/
Ahhh...Thanks Dave E. It all makes sense now. Well actually very little makes sense, but how they got on the front page of Digg does.
Mr Rand is coming up more frequently in this section despite him not being a directory owner. And the more I am reading about him --he seems a funny guy to me trying to create sensation rather than backing up claims. One thing is sure--he is getting huge traffic and publicity with these posts --and he is actually using us a baits to boost traffic stats of his sites. If we don't need him --why should we bother what he says? Just Ignore SEOMOZ --if we ignore him--he won't find cheap traffic again
