Just wondering how many directory owners add links (as in non-submitted links) to their own directory.
IMHO, I see this as too much effort, And never the less, violating ethics on the net, if a webmaster has a link-US page which does give anypne on the net to link to him, then anyone can link to him, But if he does not have a link to us page, which means he does not want everyone on the net linking to him, then its not good to use his sites name w/o his permission. Regards M.
I agree with msolution, id rather not just grab a link no matter the size of the website or corporation and place it on my site just to fill an empty category. I would rather let the categories on my directories get placements naturally, if that means that google s**ts on me until they have content in the categories then so be it.
think its not so much to fill up empty categories rather than trying to give visitors the best sites out there. There are many extremely powerful sites that will never need to submit to directories and this is how directory owners can give visitors access to such resources....
I don't do it... When I first read the post I thought you were asking if I add my own sites to my dir... in that case, hell ya!
Good point & I never even considered that. Quick G search turned up 1.6billion+ sites with those keyword so I guess there's no shortage...
I've added quite a few to my free webmaster directory, and want to add more to my free language directory.
I have never ran a directory, personally, but I believe you have to kick-start your directory with some useful links. That way, any visitors you get visiting your website, will not leave after a couple of seconds when they see the directory is fairly devoid of any external links. I was going to purchase dirSpace.com that was for sale a couple of months ago, but I was away for 2 days, when I got back, it had been sold. Gutted?
Thats a nice idea to populate a new directory.. I offered free offer when my directory was announced.
sometimes when i free, i submit couple of my sites to my own directory. but it depends, but mostly i dont.
Yes, if you have other sites then it becomes a natural that some are entered into the directory. Especially if feel they could be useful. .
There's a point actually. Before annoncement of my directory i added 150+ top ranked sites in my directory. Now i am getting some free traffic from search engines because of very hit urls and keywords.
I am adding links on a regular basis, basically authority links which have no chance of making a paid submission in my directory.. I like my directory index to look like a directory and not an empty graveyard page (personal preference)
