Wikalo.com, web directory and classifieds website is the one of the most shiniest gems of my web collection. The project was started way back in 2005, as a hybrid directory for websites and classifieds, aimed towards a general audience that either has something to sell or promote online. Its uniqueness is in the fact that every submitted entry can be displayed on other websites, via simple cut-and-paste code (compatible with Google AdSense), which ads additional value to the submission process.



In order to submit and manage their listings, users need to register. At the moment, the website counts more than 3500 users and a total of 6091 active listings. We have developed a custom user control panel, where users can preview active, inactive and expired listings, renew them, change their personal settings, and so on. Check the user CP screens below:

As mentioned above, the additional AdNetwork feature has been used as the added value to the main service. To illustrate it bit more clearly, I’ll give you the example how it works. When you submit your ads to Wikalo.com, besides being shown on Wikalo they are also visible on other websites that have wikalo adcode installed on their pages. I used to run Wikalo ads on all of my other websites, giving a high exposure to people that have submitted their listings, completely free of charge! Thanks to that, in one period ads were visible to more than 50k unique visitors daily (that’s how much I had in total on several websites of mine running Wikalo ads).





The backend is completely custom coded. Every single bit of the website was created and developed to suit my ideas by a top-notch PHP programmer. All the setting up can be done on the backend, including: duration of the ads, number of categories, moderators, number of ads per page, and so on. Below, you'll see links pointing to backend screens so you can get a much more clear picture how does it all work.

Design on the other hand was also developed with every single aspect of a friendly user interface taken into consideration. I’ve placed a lot of effort to make the website as much SEO friendly as I could. As a result, there is a large number of decently high PR subpages, and almost all pages have been indexed by Google. Its maybe more important what can the website do for others, and I can just say that many industry leading SEO’s working in fast expanding online industries like online property, have been using Wikalo since it was started.

I have never monetized the website the way I’ve planned. My plan was to provide sponsored listings that could be bought via PayPal, but I have never got enough time to finish my plans. I have been running AdSense with quite decent CTR compared to the traffic, that has been low. This is not a revenue based sale, so assume low CPC earnings.

The traffic used to come primarily from directory of directories, search engines and websites that used to run Wikalo ads. When I started selling one website by another and slowly making my website portfolio smaller, the traffic on Wikalo also dropped. For someone going the other way round, and constantly increasing its website portfolio, Wikalo would be an ideal addition. There are many ways of monetizing it, if you have enough time to dedicate to this project.

This website has a huge potential, and demands a lot of time and efforts. Therefore, since I have only 2 exams left before the end of university, for me time is becoming more and more a scarce resource. I have decided to stick with 3 projects only, and I would like to see Wikalo in hands of a serious buyer, that sees the potential and knows how to use it. The new owner should fix few things here and there. Those are minor issues that don’t quite interfere with the websites working flow, and should not be a problem for a programmer who’s familiar with PHP.

Everything you have seen on Wikalo is unique, and custom developed from scratch. A lot of ideas, time and money has been invested in the project so far, and therefore I am looking for serious buyers that are up to the challenge of taking the project over.

The new owner is preferably a DP member with high itrader rating and a good reputation in the community. New owner will also get wikalo.net & wikalo.org domains (registered at eNom). The domain is PR4 at the moment, and is projected to be PR5 after the next update.

This is not a revenue based sale. Only serious offers will be taken into consideration.

It won't be going for less than about $2000.

I have invested a lot of time and money in the system, adnetwork, backend, etc, and thats the bottom price that covers my investment in Wikalo since 2005.

If you want serious offers you should name your price range.

Then you'll get offers base don that.

Otherwise this isn't a sale this is a free site valuation service.

Not bashing you, this is a nice site and I'm interested. Just from experience and my own personal thought on it, it's hard to take a sale seriously when the seller doesn't even know what his/her site is worth.

when I check your website it was trying to install a trojan virus on my laptop.
What is wrong? you should remove the virus from your site before it does some damage....
I will not buy a website that tries to install viruses on other users's computers. Good luck with the sale.

 

Not sure about what may be wrong, could you please send me a screenshot of that? I will check with my hosting what is the problem. I have double checked the files, so I guess that that the problem could be with the hosting company.

Let me just answer to your questions briefly:

@ corematter: Yes, there are real classifieds. The thing you mention, are the slight fixes I was telling about in the first post, since every classified listing has phone and email info attached to itself, but they aren't shown on the pages. Small PHP fixes and there you'll have a fully functional classified website.

@dragons5: I am selling the website as it is. The script was customly developed, and I use it on another website in a local language. There are two versions up and running - one in English (on wikalo.com), and one not in english (on plavestrane.com). Once you purchase the website, you can modify the script to suit your needs, however you can't resell the script itself.

 

I have been receiving messages regarding the possibility to buy the script itself, so I'll respond here in case someone else is interested in that. Unfortunately, buying only the script is not an option. I am selling the website as a whole, and would like the new owner to use the advantages of a custom system.
