Scammers Alert---A suggestion

    Hello,

I want to give suggestion of opening a Folder or a Section only for "Scammers Alert" as there are a some scammers around here. It will be easy for everyone to know who is new in the list. I see threads alerting about scammers everyday and its annoying.

    Thank you

From personal experience, the messenger gets shot, and the scammer claims he isn't a scammer, and it turns into a flame war.

    Bad idea in my opinion.

You are right. I didn't think on that line. But once a guy is proved to be a scammer then he can be added in the list with details of he scam.

It is a good idea but do we really want to give the impression that scammers are widespread here at DP? There's only a few bad eggs - the vast majority of members are honest. Also, would having a specially dedicated forum encourage people to open threads more readily - perhaps jumping the gun before having all the facts?

But y not have a one section to talk about them whether its turns into war or whatever. Just to keep other forums cleans :)

I remember reading that scammer type chat is (maybe unofficially) designated to a certain area of DP, I believe it was General Chat or Underground. I can't remember now! sorry.

However, I'm not against the idea of having the scammer chat all in one folder.

I believe this idea was discussed a couple of months ago. It would be drawing too much attention to the fact that DP may have a scammer problem.

Most of the scammers only succeed because the person be scammed are either greedy or fail to check the person out first. There is already a scammer alert it is called itrader.

There are 30,449 active members over here. Its simply impossible to depend on iTrader.

If there is a separate section then it will be easy to alert everybody.

The "Official" word from Shawn was about three months ago where he said NO.

The post is somewhere around here , but basically he said that creating that type of area would "have a negative impact" on the forum,

Its here if you search for it,

I do agree that it would have a negative impact, but it would be for a reason: there really do seem to be more active scammers here then on other webmaster forums. It's really due to DP's size as opposed to any other factor.

I'm against the idea of a forum for this alone, but a sticky thread in this forum may be something to think about. On the other hand I've been buying and selling here for a long time and prudence has kept me from being the victim of any scams. Proceed with caution and research the people you are dealing with: that remedy not only makes the scammers known, but puts them out of business.

The iTrader system does not always work. Some months ago I was ripped by one of the little fecal piles who was extorting a positive iTrader before he would pay for work already done.

He was part of a regional group that within the space of a week had traded between themselves to build up their iTrader numbers so it would look like they were trustworthy to the unwary.

I personally feel everyone should at the very least let people know where they are at. As you will note, I have nothing to hide about my location on the planet.

The iTrader system allows only one vote from each member to count to the showing total - they would have to be a very, very large network of scammers to be able to abuse the system enough to increase their iTrader rating to a point that they look immediately trustworthy.

Again, I think it's most important to simply be careful when choosing the people that you do business with. I've never had an issue with someone attempting to withhold or extort with iTrader.

Don't trust new members with a high iTrader rating.
Check from which members they got their iTrader points.

I don't think we need it since I agree with what Shawn has said earlier. We don't want to turn DP into a forum where members only fight, scam and do not respect each other. It happens yes, but my suggestion is - always check user details before dealing with him/her. Check the number of the posts, check the actual posts, check the itrader, check their profile, you can even check their homepage. Remember it's always better to pay a few $$ more to someone you can trust than get scammed by a Peon. (I've nothing against Peons :D)

    Good luck, everyone!

That sort of behaviour is completely unacceptable and you should have reported it. iTrader should never be awarded until the transaction is completed and only then to the satisfaction of the person making the award.

It is very difficult to identify the scammer just be checking their profile/iTrader
