Thanks for the postive comments everyone I think it was around February of this year that Google applied the status. We are looking at major development of the list in order to offer greater support to directory owners, who are listed, and those who are serious about making a go of it. It is taking some time to get the drafted ideas into finished development, but we are hoping that once the changes have been made the site will really stand as a source for the best of the best in directories, and allow owners a full range of options to extend longevity, increase value, and build traffic for their directories.
hi silencer, when are you guys going to update the excel directory list? last update was may 18.. thanks.
looks like a lot more hopes and inspiration to be into directory business. Congrats Dan for the achievement.
What status? Nice forum btw, not seen that before, and yep its listed as number one on certain keywords with google, but what is defining it as an 'authority'? Do google actually say 'hey this site is an authority on a specific subject' kind of thing? What is the criteria set by Google or are people calling something an 'authority' because its listed #1 under specific keyword searches? Not knocking the site you have its neat and I will deffo be coming over but what exactly is this 'authority' stuff people talk about. Thanks in advance.
Thanks for the info kiviniar, perhaps the time difference meant dan couldn't answer? I'm still baffled though as I would have thought the 'authority' would be given fist place under what they are, for example vilesilencer if I'm correct I would do a google using keywords directory owners forums which is what it is to me. But when I did this I found the directory owners forums pointed to another forum called Directory-Owners.com. Are you saying that because google plucks four results from the same site that its an 'authority'?
The problem here is the IVS is not optomized for the KW "directory owners forums" but instead keywords like: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...d=1&q=seo+friendly+web+directory+list&spell=1 http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=SEO+Friendly+Web+Directory http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=SEO+Friendly+Free+Directory+List&btnG=Search http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=free+web+directory+list and so on... If u see the SERP results for http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=directory+owners+forum You will see that none of the result are actualy optomized for those keywords and with revelant content and keywords in the domain, http://www.directory-owners.com/ ranks first What i can say about being an authority is that google places an extra amount of trust to your content and displays those extra results Its just a status that google does not give to all
Thanks for a great explanation, it would be great if Google made it clear but I see where your coming from, I'm thinking you can pretty much work it out from the type of results you showed there, if you get your site high in SERPS under a number of keyword phrases then you get recognised for that. May be wrong there but it does look a possibility.
Apologies for not answering this at the time, I don't spend as much time on Digitalpoint as I probably should. You've identified "vilesilencer" or "info vilesilencer" as a directory owners forum, however, we've never called the site that. The forum, which caters for directory owners, as well as submitters is really only one aspect of the site. It is secondary to the seo friendly directory lists, which are the main reason the site exists. So a better term to Google would be "seo friendly directory list". I think Kiviniar probably covered the question anyways, but I thought I would give you my angle anyways
Well deserved Dan. Of course, I knew your site was authoritative the day I read your list, registered in your forums and saw how your system works to maintain the list. I didn't need Google's help to recognize a gem in the rough.
Thanks Dan, always better to get the answers from the man himself, no diss to Kiviniar as his answers were cool. I kinda thought it might be the SEO friendly bit that did it over directory owners but thinking for me aint good enough. Your answer done it for me so with the sites I bought and manage will be hotfooting over to you to have a look and probably submit them. Good luck, by all the hard work you did you deserve it.
this is by far the most updated list of free web directories.. Members at the forum work hard in keeping this list updated, do join us in the discussions @ http://info.vilesilencer.com/forum/
