What would be considered a good CTR for advertising. I have a small niche directory and am noticing a decent CTR (or what I think is anyways) of about 3.5-4% is that above average or below?

2500 pageviews and around 100 clicks.

That's pretty good. How is your traffic converting?

That depends on your optimization and what ads they are and if they are targetted.

I could easily get 20% CTR or more from links that I make and optimize because I can do alot more with them. But having Adsense or something like that, you may get less because you have the "ads by google" on them plus you can't optimize them as much as your own ads.

I have a question about the advertising prices I am charging for this site too.

I am offering banner placement across my network of sites 4 in total. 5 ads in rotation. Total There will be around 10k pageviews divided among the 4 sites. Is 10$/month for a 468*60 banner too much to ask?

That's good, although it depends on the keywords, your ads, your bid and theres so many things that make a difference :)

    What do you mean?

This is what I am charging them. They get a standard banner displayed right now about 2-3k times a month, to a targeted niche audience.

Maybe explain a little more what you mean about the bid and such. I think you lost me somewhere.

Sorry I thought you meant your ads on their sites not their ads on your site

Wow, for 2,500 views, I would expect 2-5 clicks... I'm jealous

Like I said its a niche network of sites for MMA (mixed martial arts) The only advertisers I have are other MMA Sites, naturally people click away.

Now I just need to build my traffic up a lot more. Before I sold my previous site I was getting 2-3k uniques a month and 8-10k pageviews after a year. This one is already up to 1-1.5k uniques and 4-5k pages after 4-6 months.

    Yes you are doing well.
4% is considered good - its what most
    webmasters will base there expected
    earnings on.

If you send ads to a list of established
    customers 10% + is expected.

A lot of webmasters will be very happy
to receive 4% it shows you probably
    have a viable web business.

    Best Wishes
    Gerry

your CTR will depend on the quality of your traffic too. I mentioned this in another thread, but if you have all organic search engine traffic coming into your site, and good targetted ads on your site, you will get a good CTR. I'm consistently getting 6% CTR on a site with high quality traffic coming in from google and yahoo.
