Why are sites still allowed to buy their way onto the coop network?

    Hi,

I thought it was very clear that you CAN'T buy you way onto the coop network. This is from the FAQ page:

    13. Can I buy my way into the network if I don't have any ad space to offer?
Sorry, no (this is not a money making venture on our end).
    http://www.digitalpoint.com/tools/ad-network/faq.html

I think that is very clear, dont you? Well there some major breaches going on. At the bottom of this page (http://www.blapper.com/) are coop ads for several sites which are not running coop ads on their own site. E.g.

"Credit cards" - link = http://www.creditcardexpert.co.uk/ (no coop ads on their site)
"Mortgage" - link = http://www.moneyexpert.com/ (no coop ads on their site)
"Mobile phones" - link = http://threestore.three.co.uk/ (no coop on their site)

If you think this is a minor breach of the rules you are wrong, these sites are doing it BIG time. Check out their backlinks on yahoo "linkdomain:INSERTURL". Most of their backlinks are from digitalpoint coop ads.

    http://www.creditcardexpert.co.uk/ - 372,000 backlinks
    http://www.moneyexpert.com/ - 2,785,000 backlinks
    http://threestore.three.co.uk/ - 225,000 backlinks

Come on digitalpoint, this is a major breach of the rules and it needs to be stopped!

They are probably running ads on different sites.

Do these other sites have to have be owned by them? Or can it be someone elses site, who then sells on their quota of impression?

You aren't making a lot of sense.

Many people have state, they take 100s of crap sites and run DP ads. All their DP ads point to their good sites.

This doesn't involve anyone selling weight. If you get caught selling weight, I'm sure you are banned, if that is your question. So don't do it.

There is no way that a national UK company like three.co.uk has created 100s of "crap sites" with then point at their main site, NO way!

Also it is not as simple as creating 100s of crap sites, you need impressions, a damm lot of impressions to get number of backlinks they have got from the co-op network

Surely it is so obvious they or their SEO agency are buying these impressions from someone.

You don't need to create 100s of crap sites.

All you need is 1 site with excellent traffic.

Like the others have stated or implied, and what is also mentioned in the FAQ, many people separate their sites into 2 categories ... one that hosts ads and the other that has their ads displayed.

From your examples I don't see how one can conclude that they are buying their way into the network.

Okay, you can assume they're buying weight and continue to hate on them.

Or you can be productive and figure out a way to get a high pr site with a lot of impressions then aggregate. Build weight then use it on a site that matters.

There is no way a company like three would spend time building up a high traffic site just so they could join the coop and get back links, they wouldn't even know how. Their business is selling mobile phones not building high traffic websites for backlinks.

It is allowed for an seo agency to build a website then "give" its coop ads it gets in return to display their clients links?

I said many people have SAID that's what they do, use crappiER sites to run the co-op on, and point ads at their good sites. Many people have said they do this, look around.

Secondly, you don't need impressions to get backlinks. You need pages indexed in google. Impressions do not factor NEARLY as heavily as you are saying they do. The main determinates are PR and how many pages you have in the API.

No one is "buying impressions." In fact, that's a fucking stupid assertion. There, I said it. It's stupid. You could fake your own impressions easier than buying them. And even then it wouldn't do a lot for your weight. If you don't know what affects your weight, then you are confused. A LOOOT of impressions could push weight up a lot, but that is just not a productive way to gain massive amounts of weight. PR and API pages. That is it.

So please... just stop saying things when you have no clue what you are talking about.

You have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA what you're talking about. It's pointless to argue with you because what you're saying is so ridiculous and you're not being logical. You're just jealous someone is doing something smart. What's stopping you from researching and grinding out and getting tons of weight? We all have an equal chance here.

OH YEA THEY HAVE TONS OF WEIGHT THEY MUST BE BUYING IT! ITS UNFAIR FOR PEOPLE LIKE ME!!

Imagine this scenario: A small company in India has an army of people making flash games and e-cards for their Alexa 10,000 site. They just so happen to put coop links on their site as another in their arsenal tool to launch more projects. What's wrong with that?

You don't need hundreds of crap sites. You simply need one and there are businesses with full time people working at this sort of stuff. SEO isn't something you do passively you're constantly making content and building traffic. It's a 20 hour a day job and it's not easy.

Do some research and learn how the system actually works before you point fingers.

Both you are dismissing my comments without fully investigating them. You are completely naive if you think that these sites are not up to some sort of funny business.

Do some research before you speak in future, you think you know everything but i can assure you dont!

Yes, I was a bit rude. I apologize. I'm not dismissing your comments, in fact, if you look at : their site-wide backlinks on yahoo They actually have about 15.5 million. And a lot of the ones I looked at were DP ads.

So I grant you that. BUT... there's no proof they are doing something "funny." And if we look at 1000 backlinks, that's only : (1 000 / 15 566 361) * 100 = 0.00642410901 so like 0.006% of their backlinks.

But it's not unreasonable to get 15 million backlinks from the co-op, if you have enough weight. And we can't just ASSUME because they are doing well that they are cheating somehow.

I think we are just saying we need proof. And you slightly off about impressions. In my limited tests, even 20x normal amount of impressions on a site of mine only added a few thousand weight.

So, if you want to see how they are doing it, they MAY (probably not though) interlink all the sites they own. It's quite possible they have many, many sites in the co-op, all with high PR, all with hundreds of thousands of pages in the co-op.

If you search the forums, there are people who have said they have say... 900,000 weight. I'm positive there are people with more, people with ~900,000 under several accounts. This would probably yield 15 million backlinks.

It's obviously not 1:1. If you only have 500 weight, you can still get thousands and thousands of impressions. So, I think this is highly possible depending on the sites they own.

Also consider, the bulk of their backlinks might be co-op, however, having some nice, high ranking domain names, tends to increase your backlinks naturally. People link there for one thing. Secondly, a lot of people run MFA sites that only display google results. So if you google "money" and it's in the top 10, there's probably hundreds of sites pulling those same results for their MFA pages.

So all in all, it's definitely within the realm of possibility. Just because it seems high to you, does not mean it's impossible. It's all about playing the game right.

So, in essence, I'm not ignoring you or saying your wrong, just that there's no proof or reason to suspect they are cheating. It looks like they have quality sites that bring in traffic AND links, through different avenues.

I think if you thoroughly researched, you might find they aren't cheating. But I can assure you, they are not buying impressions. That is the worst way to get backlinks from the co-op that I can imagine.

But, again, sorry for being dismissive and rude. Just try to understand, you can't accuse someone without proof, and them having 15 million backlinks doesn't make them a cheater. There's plenty of sites with more.

What exactly am I dismissing? You came basically protesting they had tons of backlinks from the coop network with no coop ads on the page they're promoting.

nddb, thanks for the apology. :)

I understand that is "quite possible they have many, many sites in the co-op, all with high PR, all with hundreds of thousands of pages in the co-op." but i know they dont. I cant explain why but I know they dont. So this only leaves two ways to get those backlinks, either they are buying direct some digitalpoint (very unlikely) or they are buying weight from people in the network.

Message for The Staint - you think you are sooo clever, sorry to burst your bubble but you aint. You are a rude, fact. You make statements like "you have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA what you're talking about", do you know me, no, so how do you know what i have "ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA what you're talking about", the fact is you dont, you made a massive assumtion and you got it wrong. I'm not even going to spend anymore time picking holes in your naive comments coz you aint worth the time.

Believe me you don't have to buy weight ;)

And how do you know what sites they are using to get their weight? A simple directory can yield a substantial amount of weight.

You don't seem to completely understand the possiblities of the coop...

    i am sorry to say

    you dumb shit

the people who have the weight on the coop network are using it to promote other sites.

i mean what is more valuable

1: your pissy little forum that you and your friends made to talk about counterstrike

    or

2: a site which now ranks number 1 for 4 million searches per month and pays $150 per new customer?????

which site shall we send all the traffic to?

shall i let you think about it for a while??

you need to learn more before you post such stupid comments.

This must be the rudest forums i have used on digital point, why are you so rude? have you go something to hide?

Turbosatan - calling me a "dumb shit" is not only rude its against the forum rules "Personal attacks against people, or sites will not be tolerated. If you have an issue with someone or their site, take it up with them personally".

    my apologies

that was out of order i do not know what came over me.

i am not normally rude i guess i was having a bad night

i guess this forum is rude as people are sick of the coop network being attacked by ill advised people.

the point i was trying to make is you make comments about digitalpoint letting people buy into the ad network without any apparent clue as to how it works.

i have 3 sites showing ads and all of the weight from them goes to one other site which doesnt show any ads.

so all of the sites you list in your first post are included in the same way.

one person has a lot of weight and they point it at another site.

    its pretty simple.

Less about something to hide, more about unfounded accusations. If I owned those sites, I would be upset. You are personally attacking them by calling them cheaters/liars.
