Google rankings rely too heavy on text links!

Have to say this is one of the most annoying things on the planet for us small fish to compete with the big boys like pricerunner/amazon who have huge marketing budgets.

I was luck enough to be offered a text ad on a heavy traffic site (under 1000 on alexa) with high pr, shown on roughly 600 pages. My rankings went through the roof not only on my homepage but inner pages i had totally forgot about. After around a month my hits had pretty much gone crazy and i was being shown along side pricerunner/amazon for the same products etc etc.

After a month the links came to an end and after a week all results have gone back down again, it seems pretty harsh that its still possible to buy your way up the google rankings which only big companies can afford to maintain!!!!

That is a big change for one link. I know it happens but i agree with you that buying a link on 1 high ranking site makes to much of a difference.

I totally agree with you SterlingPixel, but if I was a search engine I'd probably act just like Google.

lol That pretty much sums it up.

Money, talent, hard work is what usually gets you most things related to business.

Person #1: Complains about how much money a competitor has to advertise and buy their way into anything and the fact that money gets them things. Looks for every injustice that gives them a disadvantage and asks for sympathy.

Person #2: Finds a way to generate the money needed to do what their competitors are doing that works for them or a better way with much less money or simply time investment. Also uses any disadvantage as the driving force to beat the odds.

Which one is the true entrepreneur and deserves a successful website or business?

Apparently the new Google algorithm is placing a lot of weight on the # of links, and less on the # of relevant links. I still believe that the biggest factor is the age of the domain - I'm a small web design company and I dominate my competition because my domain is 9 year old.

ofcourse money mean everything. How would google make profit if all the link can pay the same fee and get the hi rank. that's why niche keywords come to reduce the problems. :D

People who pay for advertising will almost always do better than those who don't. Makes good sense, really.

Don't forget Amazon isn't Amazon just b/c it ranks high, and many of the big boys started with very low budgets, some maybe even lower than yours.

Many web massters hate and vilify porn content, but when they are really pissed of, bored of tired of coding - they watch porn!

google is making the serp according to the backlink types and backlinks. ÅŸf you have only directory links, you may be effected but the web site that you mention has unbelieveable backlinks:)
