Fleck.com has published a copy of my page.

I did a search on copyscape and found a copy of my page www.pegandrail.com the copy is http://extension.fleck.com/?sh=e3cbea7c864ddf21e669e5f7655445f7fbb3317c
    http://72.14.209.104/search?q=cache.../?sh=e3cbea7c864ddf21e669e5f7655445f7fbb3317c

There copy is indexed and cached by Google.

I sent them and email requesting they remove it and got this response.

    Hi Ed,

There is no copy of your website on our site. What you see is your page together with an annotation from someone else. It is similar to Google Translate where users look at a website through a translater. Fleck allows users to visit a website through Fleck and add notes to it. These notes are only visible when you visit the special Fleck url you mention.

Try it yourself at http://fleck.com and enter any url as a test.

    Sincerely,

    Boris Veldhuijzen van Zanten

Am I missing something here? my page indexed with their url = copyright infringement + duplicate content issues.

i think the situation is very similar to google translator. in Google translator also i think you have the right to get your website removed from the index.

just ask them that you do not want your "content" to be on their pages

I have been experiencing some wild fluctuations in G serps over the last week and I think this copy of my page may be part of the problem. I will email them again and see what happens.

    Thank you

just send them a serious email stating that they are violating copyright of your content.

tell them that the "user policy" on your site clearly states that no part of the content may be reproduced in any form without proir permission. and blah blah----

But then the same email should also go to Google as well as they are doing exactly the same - http://209.85.129.104/search?q=cache:oZ8xgrRKMI8J:www.pegandrail.com/

My advice, do not worry about it.

i think you will have to completely block google spider in order to prevent google from caching ur site

the problem is that http://209.85.129.104/search?q=cache:oZ8xgrRKMI8J:www.pegandrail.com/ is not added to google's cache and has never affected the serps

but FLick is affecting the serps. and you should have the right to get ur content removed

Search Engine Ranking is another issue. The arguments were copyright infringement and violation and here Google is just as guilty of it.

If one is worried about the ranking the best thing would be to contact them and ask them to remove the site from their database for SE reasons. The best solution would be however if they implement techniques so that search engines do not index their "external" pages.

the thing is that Google never cribs if you ask them to remove the cached pages. You just need to block google spider and all content will be deleted.

whereas, Fleck is not giving the webmasters that privelege to decide which content they want and which they dont want to get indexed

The problem is I dropped from top 10 (main keyword) to oblivion this week the one glaring thing I found was this Fleck Dup content which at this time outranks me.
Google gives me the option of not having my site in the index. Google also sends me a nice check every month.
Fleck is basically a scraper site.

I should be able to block fleck..com right ?
    Any advise on how?

Please lets stay on topic, a cheque doesnt matter here.

I noticed you already contacted them and asked to have your content removed, but to me it seems like a misunderstanding. I would ask them again to remove it due to Search Engine ranking issues. I'd suppose they also follow the robots.txt standard. Did you already try that? If not you can still block their IP.

    1. i doubt that they will be using the same IP address as is present on their website. with a company so large i dont think that they will be making this mistake

    2. personally, i think u have already requested politely to them. this is time to write a serious email. after that a threatening email, after that a threatening FAX, after that some phone calls (if there number is listed)

One could see where the requests come from and block the IP (range). But I'd guess a simple robots.txt entry would do it too.

Again, I suppose this was a misunderstanding and they thought he/she would be concerned about "stolen" content. If he/she explains the reason is SE ranking I assume they will understand it. There is probably no need for threats.

They're located in Amsterdam, so I'm not sure what you could do legally. I would simply write back and explain what you told us here - their use of your page has caused your site to drop in the rankings and that has the potential to impact your income. Make sure you note in your e-mail that they do NOT have your permission to use your content and that you will do whatever you are able to legally to ensure they can no longer use it without your permission.

Another forum member, JHMattern, seems to know a lot about this type of issue. If she sees this thread and responds, you will get some good info from her.

I explained my serp situation and they told me that Google finds their "copy" of my page to be more valuable in google's eyes and if I increased my page rank than Google may find my page more valuable and I would out rank the "copy".
    DUh!

I am going to take a look at my logs and see if i can figure out what bot they use.
I found over 20 different IP's, also they are hot linking my photos.

    1. write tem a email threatening legal action if they do not remove the content... (do not mention SEO anywhere..) be proud of ur content and only ur content .. tell them that u are going to contact there advertisers also if ur pages are not removed

    2. send a mail to google regarding the same.. do not MENITON SERPS anywhere.. just say that they

    3. send a email to the advertisers about their "so called theft of content " to use it for their own purposes.

I found that you can deny access to your site by domain names through the .htaccess file
    <Limit GET HEAD POST>
    order allow,deny
    deny from fleck.com
    deny from http://www.extension.fleck.com/
    allow from all
    </LIMIT>

I am going to give it a try and see what happens
    Thanks for your help
