I heard of people using etrade or other methods to get a US bank account. I have also heard of people loosing their money when their account got frozen and they weren't based in the US. Whatever the case is for you, be sure that you aren't risking the money that you accept by breaking Paypal's TOS.

The only legal way now after Sept 11 would be to go fly to US and open a bank account face to face. Other than that, there is probably no other way.

Are there US banks in India ? Perhaps you could visit them and see what your options are. I supposed if you plan to deposit several hundred thousands of US dollars, they will most likely be willing to assit you.

Following Banks allow you to open a bank account in US even you aren't a US citizen, only few of them I am listing:

    State Bank Of India
    WellsFargo
    Southwest Bank
    Lloyds

    Try SBI or HSBC, recommended.
