Is vBulletin worth the 85$?

Yeah 85$ not that big of a deal to you adults but to teens it may be, but besides that, is it worthwhile?

Do you think I should buy a lease or an ownd:p? Is vBulletin simple to install or is it difficult? Does configuring it take time or is it easy modding?

How is your experience when you first bought vBulletin?

Just a few curious questions for a starter buying a vBulletin license for the first time.

Edit: An hour or so later I decided to buy it and got the leased license, so waiting to see how it goes.

Do a business plan - yes, really! - because the time you will put in is worth way more than the $85, even on minimum wage.

Certainly consider whether vanilla or something will do the job but if your forum is successful then you'll be grateful for the admin and moderation tools that vB has.

I think that vBulletin is definately worth it! The first thing I see when I am deciding whether to join a forum, is the forum software and vB is the most attractive, as well has having the best features by far.

Having paid for a forum software puts your forum apart from phpBB, SMF etc forums that can be made by anyone.

My opinion : Yes, it's worth it

Do you think it is better than IPB?

IMO I think vBulletin is better than IPB, but still 30$ for support, come on.

I certainly thought (and think) it's worth the $160+30 yearly that I am currently paying for the owned license. Leasing is fine, but I had the extra start up cash, so it's all good ;)

I've found that its Admin Panel is User friendly, it's support is good, and it's community can't be beat! It's easy to skin, easy to upgrade, and many of the mods are easy to install.

    Yeah...I think I mentioned that already..

Anyways, I just bought vBulletin Leased License!!!!!

But I have a question, in vBulletin to download it you have to submit the forum URL.

Now if I do for ex. www.example.com/forums does that mean the license will be registered to that URL forever and I can't change it?

You can change it. just change the info in the members area (should be that simple)

They want to know where you put it for their records mainly.

If you are making a site for a business or you have a site that you will invest lot's into and make a lot of money from vB is the choice.

I am 15 and haven't bought a vB license but instead I have bought the start of my own custom forum which I will develope spend XXX-XXXX on it and eventually make it the next vB but for free.

Okay so I setup everything and downloaded the package, I may install today or tomorrow depending on how long it takes. How long does it take?

And it looks simple but the manual is a shitload of reading! It's like thousands of pages and takes hours to scroll down the bottom!

You downloaded vB? It takes 10-30 minutes to install depending on your host and computer.

setup is another thing - there are lots of options to play with. Don't create too many forums to start with - just a few and let them grow as your community grows.

    Agreed!

I would say make one forum and just make one forum and make it grow unless there's two different topics you would like to cover then you should make two but never make more than that.

    Another question:

Can you show me some mods that you would recommend and/or use on your forums?

Okay thanks I have another question:

For this site www.earnersforum.com is Lee (owner) using vBadvanced as a portal for the homepage or is that something else?

And also for this site www.wickedfire.com those buttons at the top are they with the theme or do you have to install those seperate, if so is there a mod for it?

thanks, more inquisitive questions will be coming your way once I think of them.;)
