While I appreciate your humor, no one peels potatoes anymore. As far as polishing boots go, I became somewhat of an expert on that myself during the two years of training I went through when I joined the Army. I can't tell you the countless hours I spent polishing my boots to a spit shine, but I can tell you I took pride in my uniform and those highly shined boots. Of course after my training, you would be lucky to see more than a brush shine on my boots

Just don't get fooled by AGS, Anthony and gworld, WEbdevHowto.
They will kiss ass to whoever agrees in even the slightest bit with them, to raise their power and fight Gtech.
GTech has been, and still is a very powerful enemy to them, which they cannot bring down.
Search for posts made by these 3 guys, you'll see what i'm talking about.

I know but I can't resist to make fun of Gtech. These loud mouth cheerleaders are such easy targets. :D

There is no point of discussing anything seriously with him because he lacks the mental capacity for serious discussions such as the role of law in Democratic society or effective methods of fighting insurgency and guerrilla warfare.

Don't worry, I'm not here to jump on any bandwagons. The reason I came to these forums was to discuss website development. I just saw this thread on 9/11 and was surprised to see these political discussion going on here. I could not resist adding my two cents as the subject is something that has had an incredible impact on my life.

You will notice very soon that unlike Gtech and his boys, other people here have no bandwagon for you to jump on. ;)
We who stand for honest discussions and defend democratic principals don't exchange green reps with each other and neither gang up on some one with red reps as Gtech and his band of sissy cheerleaders do. :D

Unfortunately, some of our top generals seem to have forgotten the lessons we learned in Vietnam on that subject.

It is an over confidence in fire power like kids who are too cocky about their daddy new corvette and forget that they still need the experience as a driver. Fighting insurgency and Guerrilla warfare only with military actions without combining it with proper political actions is doomed to fail as lessons from Vietnam, Cuba, Nicaragua and El Salvador has thought us.

Don't take this the wrong way but you mention democratic principals and honest discussion and then go on to call people a "band of sissy cheerleaders". I love political discussion as much as the next guy, but I think name calling rarely builds credibility for anyone’s arguments. I'm not calling you out on it, just letting you know the impression it gives me. I don't know the history here or who has said what to whom in the past.

I am new here, so I don't know what is or is not tolerated here, but I don't want to engage in a discussion that after a couple posts degrades into personal attacks. I appreciate hearing opposing viewpoints as it helps to revaluate my own beliefs, but name calling and personal attacks serve no useful purpose in educated debate in my opinion.

I agree with you. You would be surprised at the "brain drain" this is occurring in the military. Many people that have been in a while and have the knowledge and skills are getting out. We are being replaced by new guys that get promoted way too quickly to fill our positions but they are lacking in the "experience as a driver".

I only do it to Gtech and his band since I have known his brand of "patriotism" for more than 2 years. You can write a 5 page essay about the Guerrilla warfare, insurgency and counter insurgency and reference different sources in support of your arguments and his response will be that you are a pro terrorist or a terrorist if you don't believe in what ever this administration says. ;)
I have posted about what is happening in Iraq today very long time ago when every one was still talking about shock and awe missions and mission accomplished and it was not very popular to criticize the lack of preparation by this administration. Just search my posts and you can find it.

This is a crazy place this P&R forum but stick around, good to see someone who has served putting his point of view across.

A couple of the Bush Hawks here will probably point out that I called the troops in Iraq "turkeys" which I admit to doing. The reason I called them "turkeys" is that that is my perception of how fools like Bush and Cheney see the troops over there. Purely numbers.

I'm ex British Army, I left two months before my unit (based in Germany) went off to the Gulf in Gulf War One in November 1990. I was only 21 and a bit wet behind the ears but I was so glad to be driving out of them camp gates while the rest of the lads were painting the trucks from cam green to desert brown.

What you must remember in this forum is that there are far too many "armchair hawks" that have seen far too many crappy American war films and played way too many computer games that still support this bullshit war. Sat there in the safety of their own homes behind their computers.

I hope that you stick around and give us some more insight into how it is out there, from what I've seen on the T.V it looks fucking frightening.

Also, I see this as a completely "unwinnable war" what would your views and the views of your fellow squaddies be on that?

I was there for the initial invasion. That was a different time and place; it is much more dangerous now in my opinion. My cousin was there at the same time I was for the first invasion. He was sent back again and is now home on disability leave after being involved in an IED attack. He watched his squad get blown up in front of his own eyes. The irony is he is mostly blind now from the shrapnel that entered his eyes during the attack. His eyes will probably heal overtime, but I can't see how the memory will ever fade.

It is always sad to see the life of young people is destroyed in this way. I fully understand that some times death and destructions are the necessary evils in any soldier life but it is hard to see that some one life is destroyed not because they wanted to serve their country but because of the greed of few individuals.

Maybe it is a difference in language, but I would call them "sitting ducks". I know I felt like a "sitting duck" at times. That is not a disparaging remark against the men and women who serve, just an observation of the position they are put in.

I can't speak for anyone else but I raised my right hand to defend the constitution of the United States and swore to obey the orders of the officers appointed over me. Call me crazy, but at the time I felt that it was the duty of the highest officer, "The Commander in Chief" to only place soldiers in harms way to defend the constitution and the American way of life. At that time I couldn't image that a President, "The Commander in Chief" would have intelligence fabricated and use it to rally support for an invasion of a country that posed no threat to my constitution or the American way of life.

My cousin wanted to and did serve his country. He is more of a Patriot than I will ever be. It is only his command, his "Commander in Chief" that let him down.

You are not crazy, the world has changed. There has always been crooks and dishonest politicians but until few years ago they needed to hide their actions and when their mischief came to light then they were punished for it. This administration seems to live by the motto from the movie wall street, "Greed is good" and Americans have learned to live with these crooks and no one is even surprised by their actions or ask that they should be punished.

Here is a link to a previous post of mine where I predictaed today's situation in Iraq about 2 years ago.

I did make a comment a few months ago about the forgotten troops that come back injured, blind, limbs missing, seriously burnt etc. etc.

I think it's sad that these people are totally overlooked. :(

Someone else here posted a picture of a guy that was seriously badly burned getting married to his sweetheart, it was so sad to see the state of the guy in his prime looking like the fucking elephant man. These heroes are completely forgotten and that is real sad.

That is a very good observation and it will be very interesting to see if any of the Bush lovers we have in this P&R forum will attempt to make a comment on that.
