Iranians Want Democracy, Nuclear Inspections

Most Iranians support nuclear inspections, a democratic government and normal relations with the United States, a poll by a U.S.-based organization has found.

Terror Free Tomorrow found 80 percent of Iranians support full inspections and a guarantee not to develop nuclear weapons in return for aid from other countries.

Slightly more than half, however, said they still favor the development of nuclear weapons and think the country would be safer with them. Developing the weapons is considered a "very important" priority for just 29 percent of those polled.

But when presented with an option to give up nuclear weapons development in return for outside aid, only 17 percent still supported nuclear weapons development.

When you take governments out of the equation, and you go directly to the people, you begin to see what they really want...

It's not about the people. Many want a westernized culture. I'm sure none want to be arrested for not wearing proper clothing. But it doesn't happen, so what they want doesn't matter a whole lot. Not when they don't have much (if any) say in what happens.

I'm sure the average iranian doesn't want a 20% unemployment rate, sky high inflation, gas/electrical rationing either. But the leadership only focuses on the nuclear program, while letting the economy go to crap.

But my point in posting is that with all the hoopla surrounding Iran atm, it's very easy for people to forget we're talking about governments for the most part; we shouldn't demonize the people themselves. The average person is probably very much like "us" in alot of respects.

Does anyone really focus on the people? I think most people talk about the administration, possibly some of the fanatic followers. But when you deal with a country, you are dealing with the leadership, not joe bob down on the street.

I still think the crazy gang need to have a little think about this one:

Israel is rumoured to have around 200 nuclear weapons (obviously paid for by US taxpayers just like everything in Israel is. ;))

Israel has not even signed nor ratified the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

All the members of the crazy gang are hypocrites that will support anything their fuhrer Bush says, Iranians want peace, they are sensible enough to understand that any thoughts of attacking another country would be a suicidal move.

Sadly wankers that push bullshit out to the sheeple (which includes every member of the crazy gang) still think that Iran is evil.

Which just about sums up how stupid the crazy gang are.

GTech even goes as far as mentioning at every chance that Ahmadinejad wants to wipe Israel off the map, spoon fed bullshit that the mainstream media has planted in his tiny mind.

Of course they do. The majority of Iranians are decent people. It's the crazy religion of peace that is ruining their country and putting it in danger.

Iranians are the victim of human rights violation by their own govt.
They should voice their disagreement strongly and dont let their govt to enforce dark age rules.

I know that, one single voice wont do much, but when a crowd roars it makes a difference.

It's not me who is suffering, its them so they should stand against it.

I have some friends that were born in Iran and are afraid to return to their own country because they fear that they might not be able to return.

Iran is not the type of country where you can gather in mass and make a difference, you can gather in mass and protest but you just might die in mass.

I would hope so as well....I don't think any progress will be made though as long as its just a war of words, which is all it has been for the last few months.
